Reports have stated that Prince Harry is set to take a 5-month long paternity break following the birth of his daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

His wife, Meghan Markle, is also reportedly taking the same amount of time to spend quality time with her family in California.

The couple will be taking a step back from their charity during this period, Archwell, but will resume their duties, including Harry’s as “chief impact officer” with US mental health firm BetterUp.

The former senior royal’s twenty-week paternity leave blows his brother’s break out of the water, with the Duke of Cambridge only taking a maximum of 2-3 weeks off when his first child, Prince George, was born.

William also took a short period off when Princess Charlotte was born and only 2 days when it came to Prince Louis.

However, his wife, Kate Middleton, took an extended period of 7 months off for their youngest child before returning to her official duties alongside her husband.

Previously, she’d only taken a maximum of 4 months off for her other children.

The news comes shortly after the birth of Meghan and Harry’s second child, Lilibet, or Lili for short.

The Duchess of Sussex gave birth to their daughter on June 4th at approximately 11:40 AM at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in their home state of California.

Royal biographer, Penny Junor, said the break is going to be “good for them.”

“Five months is a generous amount of time off but good for them. It’s all right for some. I do believe bonding well with children when they’re young is very important.”

She continued:

“Harry maybe felt his parents were too busy when he was a child and he wants to make the most of it now for his young family. Certainly, both of his parents were working and he spent a lot of time with nannies.
“I’m sure they’ll get up to all sorts during their time off together as a family — maybe even some more feeding chickens.”

Let’s hope this break does them some good!
