Jennifer Aniston has admitted that Ross and Rachel were on a break as the cast re-enact a scene during the new exciting Friends trailer.

Friends is arguably one of the most successful sitcoms of all time.

We were introduced to the Friends gang back in 1994, when Ross (David Schwimmer), Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Chandler (Matthew Perry), Monica, (Courteney Cox), Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), and Joey (Matt LeBlanc) first burst onto our screens.

It was an instant hit...

Created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, the comedy follows the friends, who live in the same New York apartment block, as they together navigate through the turbulent years of their late twenties.

And we grew to become incredibly attached to these characters...

It truly made us feel like a member of the Friends gang and we could relate to so many different aspects of the show.

Whether we could relate to Joey's skills with the ladies...

Or if we felt connected on a spiritual level to Phoebe... there's something for everyone in Friends.

On a personal note...

Neat-freak Monica speaks to me on a totally different level.

The final episode aired in September 2004...

And we watched through our tears as the gang said their final goodbyes to the apartment we had all grown to know and love for the past decade.

It was an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least.

Monica and Chandler were starting a family, Phoebe was newly married, Rachel had a new job in Paris... As with a lot of friendships, the gang had grown apart and were embarking upon their separate journeys.

Oh, and Rachel got off the plane...

Fans rejoiced as Ross and Rachel finally put their differences aside and got back together.

But, seventeen years on from Rachel getting off the plane...

We have never found out what happened to the gang. Did Rachel and Ross stay together? Would Monica and Chandler ever get divorced? Did Joey ever make it as a big actor?

Over the years, there have been a few low-key reunions and a lot of false hope...

Apart from the occasional reunion on talk-shows, fans have had their fair share of disappointments when it comes to waiting for a Friends reunion.

A trailer for a Friends movie went viral last year, giving superfans false hope that the sitcom was hitting the box office...

But it wasn't to be. The trailer was quickly confirmed to be fake and, again, our dreams were shattered.

And even the cast have confirmed in the past that a reunion is incredibly unlikely...

Warner Bros.

Matt Le Blanc left fans heartbroken last year as he rejected calls for the show to return, saying the sitcom simply "wouldn’t be the same" in an interview with the Mail Online. He added, "People want to know what happened to them. But it was about a finite period in a person’s life after college, before you settle down and start a family."

And it isn't just the cast who have their doubts...

The show’s co-creator Marta Kauffman, says she constantly gets "nagged" by fans to bring the sitcom back. "Watch the old ones – there is no way we could win that. And there’s no way it would be satisfying and it’ll never happen. We’ll never do it," she said in an interview with Deadline.

So, yeah... Things haven't been looking too great on the reunion front...

Warner Bros.

Many worry that, because Friends was about a group of people in their twenties and thirties, it just wouldn't work following the gang through their forties and fifties.

Well, the news we were all waiting for arrived in February...

All of the cast posted the same throwback picture on Instagram confirming the news of an official reunion.

Many fans hoped that the reunion would be scripted...

But sadly, the reunion will simply be a sit-down with the entire cast and crew to just catch up and reminisce on the good times. It still sounds brilliant, though!

The reunion is scheduled to air on May 27th on HBO Max...

Along with the channel releasing all 10 seasons of the sitcom for viewers to watch on-demand.

But bad news wasn't far around the corner...

Due to the global pandemic, the Friends reunion was called off "indefinitely," just a week before filming was set to take place.

However In November 2020, Matthew Perry gave us a huge update.

David appeared in an online interview with Jimmy Fallon...

And whilst discussing the famous series, he decided to discuss one of the biggest debates in the series.

And that is the debate of...

Were Ross and Rachel really on a break?!

This debate has been discussed by fans since 1997 when the episode aired that showed Ross and Rachel break up.

Ross slept with Chloe the Xerox girl when he and Rachel supposedly "broke up."

Ross' defense was that they were on a break, but Rachel was adamant that they weren't which led to her dumping poor old Ross on the spot.

The majority of us were totally on Rachel's side...

Because they weren't on a break and Ross shouldn't have cheated!

The debate has never been settled...

David said: "People are so passionately divided about whether or not they were on a break," the actor said when asked by Jimmy what people shout at him in the street.

When Jimmy asked which side of the debate David stood, he simply responded:

"Yeah, it's not even a question, they were on a break."

However in the new trailer for the long awaited Friends reunion, Jennifer Aniston is seen finally admitting the one thing we've all been debating for 17 years.

When James Corden (who's hosting) asks the dreaded question: "Were Ross and Rachel on a break?"

HBO Max

Aniston and the rest of the cast admits to the crowd YES!

We couldn't believe it! Though Matt LeBlanc didn't agree with them, muttering bullsh*it under his breath.

We agree with you Matt.

Sorry guys, but Ross and Rachel definitely weren't on a break. Just saying.
