Are You Interested in Playing Tennis? Here Are Some Tips!
Tennis is an interesting sport in the sense that it’s got a much more diverse set of players all around the world than, say, basketball. While basketball is a sport mostly dominated by young adults, players from all age groups, ranging from children to even the elderly, enjoy tennis on a regular basis. This makes tennis a sport that anyone can enjoy, and if you find yourself interested in it, then you’ve got a fun journey ahead of you. To make the journey smoother, here are some tips you’ll want to learn before you really get your hands dirty with the sport.
TENNIS TIPS FOR BEGINNERS
Learn the rules
This seems self-explanatory at first, but tennis isn’t as intuitive as you may think at first glance. While you may understand basketball’s scoring system by watching a few minutes of the game, for example, tennis has a scoring system that you don’t really see in many mainstream sports. Aside from this, there are rules in serving, receiving, and the like that don’t really make themselves apparent unless you know about them beforehand.
These rules are what makes tennis a little more difficult to dive into right out of the gate. Still, once you familiarize yourself with the rules, the game is quite simple, so actually playing the game with all the rules in your head shouldn’t be too difficult.
Have the right equipment
Tennis has specialized equipment for you to play, much like any other sport. On a personal level, tennis players will own their own tennis racket as well as some tennis balls for practice at home. Choosing the right tennis racket can be a difficult decision for some, as there are all sorts of tennis rackets on the market today. It’s not as difficult as you may think, however.
Tennis rackets vary in size based on who’s using them. Smaller rackets are for kids whereas the larger ones are reserved for adults — so far so good. Where it gets a little more complicated is when it comes to the weight, grip, and shape of the rackets. These things can affect your performance, but they only really matter if you’re a more experienced player. If you’re just starting out, then you don’t need to worry too much about this.
Buy the right clothing
Tennis attire is pretty unique compared to other sports attire. You often see tennis players wearing tennis caps and white or black outfits. When you’re playing with friends and family, however, you don’t need to be super formal with your clothing. Anything that’s remotely suited for athletic and sports activities should be fine. A pair of comfortable and thin shorts combined with a breathable shirt and you’re ready to play.
Learn some basic strategies
If you really want to get in-depth with tennis, a great way of doing so is by learning the basic strategies of the game. If you’re attentive enough, you may pick up these strategies on your own as you play, but learning these strategies early on will help you focus on other things instead. Learning where to hit the ball, your form, controlling your center of balance — these are just some of the many ways you can improve your gameplay, and by at least being familiar with the concepts, you’ll be well on your way to becoming a better player.
