And there's no denying that there's certainly a mixed opinion about him.

Gervais was first placed under the spotlight when he wrote and starred in The Office in 2001.

The sitcom was hugely successful in the U.K and even though it only ran for 2 seasons, it ultimately lead to the creation of The Office (U.S) which is one of our country's favorite sitcoms.

Gervais went on to write and star in Extras...

And he embarked on countless stand-up performances and comedy shows that were very popular among his fans.

Of course, his jokes aren't to everyone's taste...

And this has most certainly been proven from his numerous gigs of hosting the Golden Globe Awards!

His Golden Globes gig this year was perhaps his most controversial...

With him poking fun and calling out sensitive subjects such as the Harvey Weinstein case, Jeffrey Epstein's death, and all in all, how Hollywood celebrities are all the same shallow and narrow-minded people with no sense of reality. Ouch.

But alongside several British TV shows and movies...

And Gervais' character of a man trying to heal after the death of his wife spoke volumes to so many fans all around the world.

After Life was a shift in tone compared to Gervais' usual acting style...

And the show addressed these subjects in a tasteful way without causing offense.

Gervais now has a worldwide fanbase...

Meaning that everything he says or does on social media is immediately placed under the world's spotlight.

Well, the comedian has been slammed as of late by another fellow comedian...

And it's all over an offensive joke that Gervais made about Caitlyn Jenner back in 2018.

Scottish comedian Frankie Boyle, who is perhaps one of the most controversial comedians out there, has decided to pull up Gervais on some past comments...

And in a recent interview with BBC journalist Louis Theroux, Boyle expressed his concern over Ricky Gervais' "lazy" trans jokes... which has gotten a lot of people talking.

Many fans felt Boyle's criticism was uncalled for...

And that Gervais' jokes actually used the correct pronouns for Jenner.

And of course, people pointed out that Boyle himself is a hypocrite...

Because he's one of the most offensive comedians out there!

Some of the jokes Boyle has made in the past are shocking...

Including openly saying how he hoped an audience member would "die from cancer."

But on the other hand, many agreed with Boyle...

And it's clear that many feel that Gervais simply isn't made for stand-up comedy.

Boyle clearly wasn't impressed by the jokes.

"I thought his routine about trans people was very lazy," the comedian told Theroux on his podcast, Grounded. "I would like him to have the same respect for trans people as he has for animals. I think that's not a lot to ask."

He then said:

"I mean, look, we know Ricky Gervais, he's a brilliant actor, he's a brilliant writer, he's not a f****** stand-up comedian! Just 'cos Ricky Gervais self-identifies as a stand-up comedian, am I supposed to say that he is one? It's f****** political correctness gone mad."

It's clear that Boyle really isn't a fan of Gervais' stand-up acts...

But let's face it, will Gervais really care about the criticism? Probably not!

So, what was it exactly started all the criticism?

During Gervais' 2018 Netflix special, Humanity, he referred to Caitlyn Jenner as Bruce and compared being trans to "self-identifying as a chimpanzee." What do you think? For more, read on to see why Gervais made a brutal swipe at James Corden...
