Now, it was announced on the morning of April 9th that Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, had sadly died.
He was ninety-nine.
It was no secret that the royal had been struggling with his health for quite some time…
And had undergone many surgeries over the years.
He had previously dealt with complications such as a blocked coronary artery and a bladder infection just days before his ninety-second birthday…
Resulting in the Duke undergoing exploratory abdominal surgery, which he swiftly recovered from.
And in 2015, he retired from public engagements entirely after becoming the longest-standing royal consort in British history.
But soon after, he fell victim to another health issue which involved hip replacement surgery.
Since then, he had been on a tragically rocky path.
However, things truly took a turn for the worst for the royal this year.
On the evening of February 16th, Prince Philip was rushed to hospital after feeling “unwell.”
The Sun reported that he would be spending “a few days” there.
But it was also reported that he was in “good spirits” after being taken to the King Edward VII Hospital in London.
The Duke made a brief recovery…
But from there, things were quick to worsen.
His health deteriorated rapidly…
And last week, we received the news we had all been dreading.
Buckingham Palace announced on Friday, April 9th, that Prince Phillip had tragically passed away at the age of ninety-nine.
He will be greatly missed by all those who know and love the royal family.
Since the tragic news broke, tributes from fans, celebrities, and politicians alike were quick to flood in.
In their own statement, the royal family wrote:
“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss. Further announcements will be made in due course.”
Prince Harry offered up a beautiful statement titled, “In loving memory of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh”…
And Harry started by writing:
“My grandfather was a man of service, honor, and great humor. He was authentically himself, with a seriously sharp wit, and could hold the attention of any room due to his charm — and also because you never knew what he might say next.”
”He will be remembered as the longest-reigning consort to the Monarch, a decorated serviceman, a Prince, and a Duke. But to me, like many of you who have lost a loved one or grandparent over the pain of this past year, he was my grandpa: master of the barbecue, legend of banter, and cheeky right ’til the end.”
“He has been a rock for Her Majesty The Queen with unparalleled devotion”…
“By her side for seventy-three years of marriage, and while I could go on, I know that right now he would say to all of us, beer in hand, ‘Oh do get on with it!'”
Harry wrapped up his statement by saying:
“So, on that note, Grandpa, thank you for your service, your dedication to Granny, and for always being yourself. You will be sorely missed, but always remembered — by the nation and the world. Meghan, Archie, and I (as well as your future great-granddaughter) will always hold a special place for you in our hearts. Per Mare, Per Terram.”
Princess Eugenie has offered up a similarly emotional statement.
It’s extremely heartfelt.
“You would be so touched by all the tributes that have been shared with me the past few days.”
“People remember sitting next to you at a dinner, or shaking your hand once, who remember you saying hello in passing, or remember how much their DofE award meant to them.”
“I remember learning how to cook, how to paint, what to read. I remember laughing at your jokes and asking about your spectacular life and service in the navy.”
“I remember incinerating the sausages and you swooping in to save the day.”
“I remember your hands and your laugh and your favourite beer.”
“I will remember you in your children, your grandchildren and great grandchildren.”
“Thank you for your dedication and love for us all and especially Granny, who we will look after for you.
With all my love
But the latest tribute comes from Prince William and Kate Middleton.
As they shared a touching photo of the Queen and the Duke with some of their great-grandchildren.
The sweet snap was captioned:
“Captured by The Duchess of Cambridge ? The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh surrounded by seven of their great-grandchildren at Balmoral Castle in 2018.”
But now, fury has been sparked…
After a TV show guest claimed Meghan Markle would be “offended” by the picture as her son Archie was not included…
Appearing on the UK show, This Morning, Julia Hartley-Brewer claimed Meghan Markle would be “offended” by the picture as, despite not being born at the time, her son Archie was not included.
Discussing the picture, another guest described the photo as “lovely” and said it showed the royals are still a family.
But, Hartley-Brewer disagreed saying: “It’s a beautiful photograph taken back in 2018, several of the grandchildren of course – before Archie was born to Meghan and Harry.”
“I wonder if Meghan would take offense at this photograph because it doesn’t include her son.
“She probably thinks it’s a racist photograph taken before her son was even conceived but I’m sure she’s looking to take offense at it anyway.”
The 2 women began arguing, with the other guest adding: “To suggest that Meghan would think that something was racist because of something that didn’t even exist at the time, you yourself are kind of pushing this agenda and I’m tired of it.”
Before show hosts broke them up.
