Now, who doesn’t know Sandra Bullock…
She’s an incredible actress and producer.
You’ll know her from movies like The Heat, Speed, Ocean’s 8, and Birdbox.
And of course, who could forget her role in Miss Congeniality.
But, there’s 2 people that just know her as mom.
In 2010 and 2015, Sandra adopted 2 children – Louis, age eleven, and Laila, age 9.
Motherhood has undoubtedly been a joy for Sandra…
Previously, she opened up with People to discuss how her children came to her “at the exact right time.”
She described her family to the outlet as “blended and diverse.”
“My family is blended and diverse, nutty, and loving and understanding,” she said. “That’s a family.”
She also explained to Today that she had thought her time to be a mom has passed until Hurricane Katrina happened.
“Katrina happened in New Orleans, and I knew,” she said. “Like, just something told me that my child was there. It was weird. It was very, very weird.”
But being a mom hasn’t come without its struggles…
Back in 2018, Sandra spoke with InStyle where she revealed that she would rather people didn’t use the term “adopted child.”
“Let’s all just refer to these kids as ‘our kids.'”
“Don’t say ‘my adopted child,'” she said. “Let’s just say: ‘Our children.'”
Sandra has also recently opened up about a conversation she had with her son aged just 6-years-old about racial profiling.
Speaking with the Grio, Sandra said: “I have a beautiful Black son. At the age of 6, he popped on a hoodie and I was like, ‘We’re gonna have a conversation. It’s different for you.’
“I was like, ‘What does it look like you’re doing with the hoodie?’ And he says, ‘Well, I look like I’m hiding.'”
After asking her son if he had anything to hide, Sandra told him: “Then you don’t need to wear [the hoodie] outside.”
“I said, ‘People are scared and will react to you differently than if you were a white boy.’ And he knows it. I let them see everything. I let them hear and know everything.”
And now, Sandra has opened up about another difficult part of motherhood.
Speaking candidly about motherhood, Sandra has revealed that she “sometimes” wishes she and her children had the same skin color.
And it has sparked a conversation online…
Speaking on Red Table Talk with Willow Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Adrienne Banfield-Norris, Sandra admitted that she sometimes wishes their skin colors “matched.”
“I wish our skins matched, sometimes I do. Because then it would be easier on how people approach us,” she said.
“I have the same feelings as a woman with brown skin, and it being her babies. Or a white woman with white babies.”
At which point Willow responded: “It’s the mother-child dynamic. There is no color.”
Sandra then added that she hoped “one day that will go away.”
“Maybe one day that will go away,” she said. “Maybe one day we will be able to see with different eyes.”
