As soon as the pesky insect took its spot on Pence's silver head of hair, #FlyGate was quick to start trending on Twitter.

It didn't take long for the memes to come rolling out...

And now, the internet is simply awash with puns and jokes surrounding the unfortunate mishap.

But, as people chortle over the ridiculous situation...

Many have already been discussing who should portray the fly for Saturday Night Live, a show whose sketches are known for their humorous and cynical take on American politics.

And, remarkably...

Everyone has the same man in mind.

Now, the Vice Presidential Debate was an explosive evening, to say the least.

Last night, Vice President Pence went head-to-head with his Democratic challenger, Kamala Harris, in the year's first and only vice presidential debate.

The coronavirus became the main talking point of the event.

In the 90-minute live debate at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Harris accused Pence and the president of deliberately misleading Americans about the lethality of coronavirus. "They knew, and they covered it up."

However, Pence shot back by accusing the Biden-Harris campaign of copying the White House's pandemic strategy...

Referring to a blunder that ended Biden's 1987 run for the presidency when he plagiarized a speech.

Page then quizzed Harris on whether she would be taking any government-approved vaccine in the run-up to the election...

In which Harris responded by stating firmly that she "would not take a jab touted by Mr. Trump without the say-so of medical professionals."

Of course, this didn't sit well with Pence, who heads the White House coronavirus task force.

He retorted: "The fact that you continue to undermine public confidence in a vaccine if the vaccine emerges during the Trump administration I think is unconscionable."

Putting the pandemic to one side, a whole array of other topics were brushed upon throughout the evening...

Racism in America being one of them. Harris slammed Trump's track record with racism, and reminded viewers that "we are talking about an election in twenty-seven-days where last week, the President of the United States, in front of 70 million Americans, refused to condemn white supremacists."

However, Pence doesn't think our country has any racism issues.

When discussing the highly-publicized murder of Breonna Taylor, Pence stated that he "trusts our justice system", and blamed the grand jury for the injustice surrounding the case.

But, out of all the memorable moments the debate had to offer...

There was one slightly more ridiculous occasion that has stuck in people's minds.

As mentioned earlier, a fly landed on Pence's head during the debate...

And viewers were transfixed.

Ridiculously, the fly stayed in its position for around 5 minutes...

As Pence, clearly oblivious to his visitor, continued with the debate.

Of course, Twitter has been a #FlyGate minefield ever since...

And I have to admit, the reactions and memes have been pretty funny.

Heck, someone even made the fly its very own Twitter account.

I love the internet, sometimes.

But, amongst all the reactions...

People have actually started discussing who they would like to portray the infamous fly in the next Saturday Night Live sketch.

Now, SNL has become reknown for its political comedy sketches...

And this year, they stirred up a lot of controversy with their take on the first presidential election, with Alec Baldwin portraying Trump and Jim Carrey taking on the role of Biden.

So, of course, people are anticipating their comedic take on the whole #FlyGate fiasco...

And everyone has the same idea in mind when it comes to the casting of the now-famous insect.

Jeff Goldblum, your time has arrived.

Yep, for some reason unbeknown to me, everyone has been calling for the iconic Jurassic Park actor to take on the role of the pesky fly.

Okay, I think I can see it...

People have been visualizing the fateful call...

It's the role he was born to play!

Sadly, Goldblum playing the fly remains as a Twitter pipedream...

As the actor is yet to even address the requests. But we can only hope, right? For more on the wonderful Goldblum, keep scrolling to read about the time he caused a little bit of controversy on RuPaul's Drag Race...
