Schools in Oregon Have Started Adding Menstrual Products to Boys Bathrooms

Schools in Oregon have started adding menstrual products to boys bathroom after the Menstrual Dignity Act was signed into law.

A TikTok video shared online has shown that schools in Oregon are adding menstrual products to all bathrooms.

According to the Daily Mail, it comes after the Menstrual Dignity Act was signed into law by Governor Kate Brown back in 2021.

With schools having until 2023 to follow the law, it requires all elementary, middle and high schools to offer menstrual products in all bathrooms.

The outlet reports that the law states: “All education providers shall install in every bathroom at least one dispenser that does not require coins or money.”

The outlet reports that the video shared online showed a tampon dispenser inside of a boys bathroom.

A suggestion that some schools have begun the process of adding menstrual products to all bathrooms.

A statement from Portland Public Schools back in 2021 explained that instructions on how to use the menstrual products would be included in bathrooms as well.

It also additionally stated: “Beyond providing products, this program reminds us that all PPS schools must provide education on growth, development, and puberty that includes menstrual health. Additionally, the Health and Adapted/Physical Education team is providing all K-12 schools with basic lessons around the four pillars of Menstrual Dignity including Privacy, Inclusivity, Access, and Education.”

“This education, like all PPS growth and development lessons, is always positive, taught without shame, and is accessible to students of all genders and all abilities.”
