On Tuesday, January 26th, longtime NBA reporter, Sekou Smith, tragically passed away...

He was just forty-eight years old.

Since the news of his death broke, tributes from shocked colleagues and sportsmen alike have been flooding in...

Smith had covered basketball for over twenty years...

And had spent the last eleven years with Turner Sports, which operates NBA TV, where he excelled as a TV analyst, podcaster, and writer.

Alongside this, he also hosted the Hang Time Podcast...

And was a regular contributor to NBA.com.

His talent was undeniable...

And his presence will be greatly missed.

NBA commissioner, Adam Silver, broke the tragic news.

In a statement, he wrote:

"The NBA mourns the passing of Sekou Smith, a beloved member of the NBA family. Sekou was one of the most affable and dedicated reporters in the NBA and a terrific friend to so many across the league."

The statement continued:

"He covered the game for more than two decades, including the past 11 years with Turner Sports, where he showed his full range of skills as an engaging television analyst, podcast host and writer. Sekou's love of basketball was clear to everyone who knew him and it always shined through in his work."

"Our heartfelt condolences go to his wife, Heather, and their children, Gabriel, Rielly and Cameron."

In his death, Smith has left behind his devoted family.

It was quickly confirmed afterward that he had passed away as a result of COVID-19.

Though when and how he contracted the virus is yet to be confirmed.

Rest in peace, Sekou Smith.

Our thoughts go out to his family during this difficult time.
