Everyone knows John Travolta for his suave character Danny in the musical romantic comedy, Grease.
But that’s not all!
He’s also had roles in movies like Pulp Fiction and Saturday Night Fever.
But many don’t really know much about his personal life…
Back in April, the Grease actor celebrated his daughter Elle’s twenty-second birthday…
Ella could be seen sitting opposite her dad in the clip…
The pair were surrounded by cakes, finger sandwiches, and sweet pastries, and were both enjoying a classic cup of tea… I mean that’s pretty much essential when you’re in England.
Travolta captioned the post: “Happy birthday my dearest Ella! I love you so much.
“We’re here in England having afternoon tea to celebrate and I’m also here to shoot a short film called, ‘The Shepherd‘ based on a book by Frederick Forsyth that I’ve always loved.”
Many fans commented on the post and shared their birthday wishes for Ella.
One Instagram user wrote: “Happy Birthday Ella!! Enjoy your stay here. Can’t wait to see the film.”
While another commented: “Happy birthday to lovely Ella, who is a spitting image of you, but in a delicate feminine way. Love you all.”
The father-daughter duo have always had a very close bond, seemingly made stronger by the tragic death of Travolta’s wife and Ella’s mother, Kelly Preston, in 2020.
Back in 2019, Travolta gushed about his daughter, telling People: “She is her own person. She is gracious, generous, poised, graceful and gorgeous,” he said.
“I don’t know how she came to be.
“And I don’t take any credit other than just adoring her, and maybe that’s a valid contribution.”
In February, Ella also posted a tribute to her dad for his sixty-eighth birthday…
She captioned the post: “Happy Birthday to my role model, my best friend, the person who has taught me one of the most valuable lessons in life, kindness. I love you with all my heart, Daddy.”
Since then, the actor has taken to Instagram to post a heartbreaking tribute to his late wife on her birthday.
But where did the couple’s love story start?
Well, the famous duo, met in 1987 while filming their first collaborative feature The Experts, and got married 4 years later, in 1991.
Of course, his wife later stated that they did not hook up at first, since she was already married to fellow actor Kevin Gage; however, she said, she was “really with the wrong person.”
Eventually, they both fell madly in love, had 3 children, one of whom tragically died in 2009, at the age of seventeen, and remained together for twenty-nine years.
Kelly told her husband in a tribute on what would be their final wedding anniversary:
“You have given me hope when I have felt lost, loved me patiently and unconditionally… made me laugh harder than any other human being possible … shared the most beautiful highs and at times lows.”
In 2020, Kelly died of breast cancer at the age of fifty-seven.
On what would have been Kelly’s sixtieth birthday, Travolta made an emotional Instagram tribute to his late wife.
“Happy birthday to my favorite dance partner! We love you and miss you, Kelly,” Travolta wrote.
But these aren’t the only tragedies that have befallen Travolta in recent years.
Back in 2009, his and Kelly’s sixteen-year-old son, Jett, died suddenly after suffering a seizure while on vacation at Grand Bahama Island.
And, speaking in an interview in 2014, Travolta described losing Jett as the “worst thing that’s ever happened in my life.”
In an interview with Lifetime, he said: “Nobody should have to lose a child. It’s unfathomable. But I’m here to say that you can get through it. You can live again. You can want to live again.”
This made the passing of his wife in 2020 all the harder to deal with.
He wrote: “It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife, Kelly, has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.”
“Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered.”
“I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while. But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal.”
Just 2 months after Kelly’s passing, Travolta was struck by tragedy once more.
As his nephew, Sam, also passed away.
According to The Sun, a friend told the publication: “He will be greatly missed, but he will always be with us.”
“Sam was definitely proud of being related to John Travolta. He was happy go lucky and a good friend, good-spirited.”
But Travolta has continually been hit with more bad news.
Including the diagnosis of his friend, Bruce Willis, with aphasia.
Travolta, who worked alongside Willis in Pulp Fiction called him a “generous soul” in his Instagram tribute.
“Bruce and I became good friends when we shared 2 of our biggest hits together, Pulp Fiction and Look Who’s Talking,” John began.
“Years later he said to me, ‘John, I just want you to know that when something good happens to you I feel like it’s happening to me.’
“That’s how generous a soul he is. I love you, Bruce.”
Following this hit, Travolta was met with more bad news.
The devastating news that Grease star Olivia Newton-John passed away broke the hearts of people all over the world.
But none more so that her Grease co-star John Travolta.
Who paid a heartbreaking tribute to her.
“My dearest Olivia,” he began, sharing a photo of the star.
“You made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible.”
“I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again.”
“Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!”
But unbelievably, this month, yet another tragedy has hit Travolta’s life.
Kirstie Alley tragically passed away at the age of seventy-one…
Her children, True and Lillie, said in a statement: “We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce, and loving mother has passed away.”
They continued: “She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead.”
They went on to praise Alley as a mother, grandmother, and actress, writing: “As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”
They concluded their statement by thanking fans for their love and support during the hard times.
“We thank you for your love and prayers and ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time.”
The statement was also shared on Alley’s Instagram page.
Travolta then shared an emotional tribute to the actress.
The pair starred together in the movie Look Who’s Talking.
“Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had.
“I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again,” he wrote on Instagram.
In a previous interview, Travolta had even referred to Alley as his “soulmate.”
But with so many deaths and diagnoses rocking Travolta’s world, the internet has been left feeling concerned for the star.
We’re sending all our love, thoughts, and prayers to Travolta.
And we hope he starts to experience some changes in fortune soon…
