Sesame Street recently featured 2 gay fathers for the first time.

‚ÄčIn honor of Pride Month, Sesame Street decided to show the world a type of family that has not been seen in its fifty-one-year history.

In an episode titled “Family Day”, they revealed a family with 2 gay fathers and a daughter.
Frank was played by Alex Weisman, the other dad, Dave, was played by Chris Costa, along with their daughter Mia, played by Olivia Perez, as they joined the rest of the neighborhood family that surprised Big Bird at a party.

The special episode aired last week in the hopes that it would help to normalize all different kinds of families.

“There are all kinds of different families,” Frank says, “But what makes us a family is that we love each other.”
The co-director of the episode, Alan Muraoka shared his happiness about the storyline, saying it was a “milestone episode.”

Posting to Facebook, he wrote this:

Sesame Street has always been a welcoming place of diversity and inclusion. So I’m so excited to introduce Nina’s Brother Dave, his husband Frank, and their daughter Mia to our sunny street. Our Family Day episode drops today on HBOMax and on YouTube.”

He continued:

“I am so honored and humbled to have co-directed this important and milestone episode. Love is love, and we are so happy to add this special family to our Sesame family. Happy Pride to all!!!!”
