And people have had a lot to say about The Pineapple Express actor's strong opinion.

Here's the full story...

Now, although marijuana is legal in sixteen American states...

It is still heavily criminalized in the other thirty-four.

The legalization of the herbal drug has been demanded for many years now...

And it has even been proven that the use and consumption of products such as tobacco and alcohol are so much more harmful than the consumption of marijuana.

Did you know that alcohol causes 22,000 deaths a year as a result of drunk driving alone?

Marijuana also holds medical properties...

That have proven to be highly effective in the past, particularly among cancer patients.

So, why exactly is marijuana still illegal in many states?

A whole range of theories exists as to why the herbal drug continues to be illegal, including tax and money purposes, its addictive perception, and its links to heavier narcotics.

But many have argued that marijuana continues to be illegal due to systemic racism...

And Seth Rogen is one of those people.

Now, we all know Seth Rogen for being a hugely successful actor...

And he's starred and produced iconic hits such as Knocked Up, Superbad (2007), The Pineapple Express (2008), The Interview, Bad Neighbors (2014), and The Lion King (2019).

Rogen is known for his great sense of humor and for being able to make fun of himself...

But he's also well known for his love of marijuana.

Rogen has made it known for decades that he's an avid smoker of the herbal drug, with him often basing his characters on-screen around this personality trait...

And in more recent times, the actor has launched his very own legal cannabis company, Houseplant.

Rogen lives in Los Angeles, where the recreational use of marijuana has been legal since 2016...

But he is a known member of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Law (NORML) a non-profit organization that advocates for the reformation of marijuana legislation in the U.S, both for medical and non-medical use.

And during a recent interview, Rogen has insisted that marijuana being illegal in other states is "racist"...

And people have had a lot to say about the actor's bold comments.

During an interview with The New York Times Magazine, Rogen emphasized that keeping marijuana illegal was "racist," with him stating:

"It's insane to arrest people for something that never should have been illegal in the first place. It's just a way to put Black people in jail."

Reflecting on his own marijuana use, he added:

"It's just a tool we use to make our experience more palatable, and some people need those tools a lot more than others. For me, it's like shoes. For you, it might be like sunglasses. Not everyone's the same. If someone doesn't need to smoke weed? Great. It's the same as someone telling me they don't wear glasses. 'Mazel tov! You don't wear glasses. I do!'"

In an April 2020 report from the ACLU, it was discovered that Black people were 3.6 times more likely to be arrested for marijuana possession than white people...

Despite similar rates of cannabis use. Although these rates were found to differ by area, all U.S states were found to have disproportionate arrests for Black cannabis users.

Do you agree with Rogen's view on why marijuana continues to be illegal in the vast majority of U.S states?

Or do you disagree with his claims and believe that the drug being illegal has nothing to do with keeping the Black community behind bars?
