One important name was missing from the long-awaited Cheers reunion at the Emmys.
The cast of Cheers finally gave fans what they’ve been asking for for a long time.
The biggest stars from the sitcom, which premiered in 1982, came back together for a reunion at the 2024 Emmy Awards.
Ted Danson, Kelsey Grammer, Rhea Perlman, John Ratzenberger and George Wendt all reunited on Monday at the awards show.
Their reunion was part of a special tribute at the awards ceremony honoring some of the most beloved shows in TV history.
Host Anthony Anderson introduced the reunion, calling Cheers “one of the greatest television shows of all time.”
After his introduction, the cast appeared onstage inside a replica of the famous Boston bar.
“This feels nice to be here in front of you,” Danson began.
Ratzenberger went on to add that the event was a “long overdue class reunion.”
The cast came together to present the Best Directing for a Comedy Series and Best Writing in a Comedy Series statuettes, both of which went to Hulu’s The Bear.
“Being together brings back some great memories of a show we’re all very proud of,” Grammer said.
The group’s appearance led to the awards show’s emotional In Memoriam segment, where Cheers actress Kirstie Alley, who died at 71 in 2022, was honored.
While fans loved seeing a majority of the cast back together again, one very notable face was missing from the reunion.
Shelley Long, best know for her role as Diane Chambers on the hit sitcom, was not at the Emmys this year.
There was no explanation as to why Long didn’t attend the ceremony, though she has rarely been spotted in public at all in recent years.
Her last film role was a couple years ago, in 2021’s The Cleaner.
The actress was spotted walking her Chihuahua outside of her Pacific Palisades, California home on January 16.
The actress looked like she wanted to stay under the radar in a pair of large glasses, tennis shoes, and a blue turtleneck underneath a black jacket.
Despite her absence, Kelsey Grammer told Kelly Clarkson earlier this month that he “would like to see Diane come back” on his Frasier reboot.
Grammer appeared on both Cheers as well as his spinoff, Frasier, as Dr. Frasier Crane. Long also appeared in three episodes of Frasier.
He also told Clarkson that Frasier should be able to “put something to bed” with Diane and “end up with a nice thing between them.”
Diane and Frasier were briefly engaged in Cheers.
In addition to Cheers, The Sopranos, All in the Family, Grey’s Anatomy, Ally McBeal, Game of Thrones, Martin, The Carol Burnett Show, I Love Lucy, and more received special tributes at Monday night’s ceremony.
“It was really about, ‘How can we celebrate 75 years of television differently?’” the show’s executive producer Jesse Collins told the Associated Press before the ceremony.
