The internet is pretty much obsessed with dogs - and with good reason. Canine cuties seem to be amongst the purest aspects of modern life. But that makes it all the more tragic when one is treated as anything less than the angel they are. Luckily, there can be a happy ending. Abandoned and mistreated pets can be rescued by charities and given a whole new lease of life.  One example is Oliver, a stray dog who was rescued and placed in a shelter in Memphis. The pup has been looking for a new forever home, but not without his best friend... his dog bowl.

Obviously, it's no secret our four-legged friends love food, but Oliver has taken this to new extremes - getting so attached to his food bowl that he refuses to put it down... meaning he had to put adopted with the bowl.

After noticing the unique little quirk, the shelter begun documenting Oliver's food bowl-related antics by posting the cutest snaps of the pup with his beloved bowl. Keep scrolling to see the adorable pictures for yourself.

Is there anything better than a dog?

These adorable creatures are basically the best things on earth. If you’re ever feeling down in the dumps, a dog is guaranteed to make you feel better.

They are truly man's best pals.

Whether they’re causing mischief, giving us those puppy eyes when they want a treat, or taking up the entire sofa, many of us couldn’t live without our furry friends.

Once you become a dog-parent, there's no going back...

It’s hard to imagine a life without having a pooch to come home to.

In an age where the internet is so divided, there's one thing we can all agree on...

How utterly amazing (and adorable) our four-legged friends are.

Sadly, so many pooches are lost, abandoned or dumped - being left to fend for themselves.

Though there is some light at end of the tunnel for many of these doggos - who end up getting rescued and eventually adopted into new families.

Meet Oliver, a shelter dog at the Memphis Animal Services.

Oliver was discovered stray, after he refused to leave a family’s backyard in Memphis, Tennessee.

Animal control officers went to collect him...

But Oliver would jump over the fence every time they'd get close to him.

So, the officers resorted to laying out a humane trap to rescue Oliver.

Luckily, their efforts paid off and Oliver was brought to the Memphis Animal Services.

They soon discovered something important about Oliver...

Though he was found all alone, it was very clear that he had lived in a home at one point in his life. He loved food and treats, and knew that if he was a good boy and behaved himself, he would be able to indulge in them. This suggested some kind of previous training.

Now, of course, it's no secret that every dog loves food...

"I met him the first day he came in, and he sat for me immediately before I even showed him I had treats," Katie Pemberton, community engagement specialist at Memphis Animal Services, explained to The Dodo. “Then, of course, as soon as the treats came out, he was even more eager to sit. The more he got to know me, the more he would press himself up against the bars of his kennels to let me pet him."

But Oliver's love for food, more specifically, his food bowl, reaches new heights...

He became so attached to his food bowl that he began carrying it around everywhere.

Perhaps Oliver was taught the quirk as some kind of trick in the past?

"The very first night he got here, our field supervisor passed by his kennel in our ACO intake room and noticed him with his bowl in his mouth," Pemberton explained. “His cute trick was very effective because she gave him more food! Then when he moved to his permanent kennel, he kept doing it. He had his bowl in his mouth most of the time."

Or perhaps, he had gone without food at one point so was adamant that wouldn't happen again.

Either-way his antics made for some adorable pictures during his time at the shelter.

After the pictures went viral, an influx of people enquired about adopting Oliver.

“We received a very unusual amount of inquiries about Oliver after his photos went viral — I wish every dog had that many people interested in adopting them," Pemberton said.

And his food bowl internet stardom led to him finding his forever home.

Oliver was adopted by his new family on April 16 —naturally, his food bowl was coming with him too. You can keep up with Oliver (and his bowl) over on his Instagram.
