Simone Biles has been dating NFL star Jonathan Owens for over a year now and the pair are still just as loved up as ever, despite their demanding schedules.
Biles recently opened up to Glamour about how she matched with Owens on the celebrity dating app Raya early last year. And at the time, Owens didn't even know who the gold medalist was!
"He would say I slid into his DMs," Biles told Wall Street Journal Magazine. "I saw him and I was like, 'Oh, he's pretty cute,' so I said hi... and then I saw that he was in the Houston area, so we started chatting a little bit, and then we went to hang out a week or 2 later."
The couple also both share a love of dogs. Owens owns a bulldog named Zeus, while Biles has 2 French bulldogs named Lilo and Rambo. And it seems the pups have since become best friends.
The pair went Instagram official in August 2020, and ever since, the couple has kept their fans up-to-date on their relationship, sharing selfies, vacation pics, and anniversary tributes.
Both have opened up about their relationship with the media too. In an interview with Texas Monthly, Owens explained why the timing was so perfect. "We ended up hanging out right before the pandemic," he said. "It was one of the few times in her life where everything was just shut off and she couldn't do anything. So we used it to get to know each other—really get to know each other. It created our bond and made it stronger. Now I'm so thankful."
He continued, "This was a match made in heaven. There's no better person for me. She loves me, she's so affectionate. I just love that. And it's just intoxicating seeing how much work she puts into everything."
Biles has also said the same about Owens and their relationship. Most recently during an interview with Hoda Kotb, Biles said of Owens, "He's a real man. I just, I love him. We have a great time together." She continued, "Our personalities match right up. We have the same sense of humor. And he's just great. He's an athlete, too, so we really understand each other and I think that's why our relationship has been seamless."
And they are both supportive of each other's careers. Speaking to People, Biles revealed, "Even if I wake up in the morning and I'm like, 'I'm tired, do I have to go?' jokingly, [Owen's] like 'Don't say that! You can do it, this is your dream!'"
She added, "He's always, always so helpful and making sure I stay on top of my therapy and all of that. He's the best because he also goes through it [as an athlete], so he knows exactly how it is in the process."
And after Biles withdrew from team finals in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics earlier this week, Owens shared his support for her on Instagram...
He commented: "I'm so proud of y'all.
After landing a rather shakey vault on Tuesday, Biles decided it was best for both her physical and mental health to pull herself out of the competition. She scored 13.766 - her lowest Olympic vault score - before withdrawing from the event.
"After the performance I did, I just didn't want to go on," she said, as per BBC Sport. "I have to focus on my mental health. I just think mental health is more prevalent in sports right now. We have to protect our minds and our bodies and not just go out and do what the world wants us to do. I don't trust myself as much anymore. Maybe it's getting older. There were a couple of days when everybody tweets you and you feel the weight of the world."
