Social media has erupted after Joe Biden wrongly refers to "The Proud Boys" as "The Poor Boys" during the final debate and the responses have been nothing short of hilarious.
The very little hope we had left was wiped away by the final debate.
via: GettyAs Donald Trump and Joe Biden spat unwelcome insults at each other, viewers were left feeling a little deflated that one of these candidates could be our next president.
But amongst the insults were also a few verbal slip-ups.
via: GettyBiden seemed to have a tough time getting his words 100% accurate during the back and forth and it led to a huge eruption on Twitter. Keep scrolling for the full video.
Last night, Donald Trump and Joe Biden met for the last presidential debate less than 2 weeks before election day.
via: GettyAfter months of mounting tensions, Trump and his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden, faced each other for one last time.
The debate took place at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee...
via: GettyAnd was moderated by NBC News correspondent, Kristen Welker.
The debate was crucial for both Trump and Biden...
via: GettyBecause, though Biden has a significant lead in the national polls, the gap between him and Trump is gradually reducing in the battleground states.
However, the evening ran a little differently from the other debates.
via: GettyRemember the first presidential debate, wherein Trump and Biden incessantly spoke over and interrupted one another?
It was utterly shambolic, wasn't it?
via: GettyAnd the second debate fared no better.
Following President Trump's coronavirus diagnosis, a virtual debate was pitched...
via: GettyBut, of course, the president refused point-blank to do this. So, in a historic first, the second debate was canceled and both candidates went on to attend their own town hall events - on different channels, at the exact same time.
And, in order for the third event to actually take place (and in an orderly manner...)
via: GettyThe Commission on Presidential Debates came up with a new rule.
The ninety-minute debate was divided into fifteen-minute segments...
via: GettyAnd at the start of each new topic, each candidate had 2 minutes of uninterrupted time during which the opponent’s microphone was firmly switched off.
Both campaigns agreed to the new rule...
via: GettyAnd, as has been done before, the moderator ensured that equal amounts of time were given to both the speakers over the course of the ninety minutes.
Of course, anticipations for this crucial event were high...
via: GettyMainly because this is Trump's last chance to salvage the little reputation he has left.
But, almost instantly...
via: GettyThe president seemed to be struggling with the debate's new "no interruptions" rule.
I mean, we all knew this would happen, didn't we?
via: GettyAdmittedly, Trump allowed Biden to have his say (though this may be thanks to his muted microphone).
But his face really said it all.
via: GettyTrump doesn't have the best poker face in the world and gave away his struggle with silence last night.
And, of course, people were quick to point it out online.
Watching Donald Trump try to control himself is the most hilarious thing ever. His instinct is to interrupt and nev… https://t.co/nGobTWe7EO— FlyntofRWBY (@FlyntofRWBY)1603416034.0
Facial expressions aside, over the course of the debate, several topics were covered.
via: Getty ImagesIncluding the coronavirus pandemic, the environment, immigration, and foreign policy.
The exchanges were sharp, to say the least.
via: Getty ImagesAnd some even pointed out how much of a calmer performance Trump gave compared to the previous debate.
But one moment stood out from the rest...
via: GettyAnd it was when Biden referred to the white supremacist group, "The Proud Boys" as "The Poor Boys."
It all started when the candidates were discussing the racial issues in the country.
via: GettyAnd Donald Trump had claimed that he was "the least racist person in the room". Now I've heard him say a lot of things, but this probably, by far, the most controversial coming from a man who implemented the "Muslim Ban" in his first term in office and failed to denounce white supremacy in the previous debate.
And of course, Biden had to respond to the claim.
via: GettyBut it seems as though he stumbled over his words while condemning the president's actions during the last debate where he told white supremacists to "stand down and stand by."
Instead, Biden misquoted him saying this:
via: Getty"He started his campaign coming down the escalators that he was going to get rid of those Mexican rapists. He banned Muslims because they are Muslims," he started.
He then continued:
via: Getty"He said about the Poor Boys last time he was on stage, he told them to stand down and stand ready. Come on, this guy has a dog whistle about as big as a foghorn."
And immediately social media jumped on the action:
