It has just been announced that Justice Sonia Sotomayor will be the person swearing in Kamala Harris on Inauguration Day this week.

Scroll on for exactly why Harris has selected her...

Now, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris' inauguration is just 2 days away...

And for many, this is a moment that can't come quick enough.

Biden has endured a long and tedious battle for his place in the White House...

Because in 1987, he first decided to run for president but, after suffering from severe headaches during the campaign, he dropped out the following year.

Doctors later discovered that he had 2 life-threatening brain aneurysms.

And, 2 decades after his initial presidential bid...

Biden decided to run for president once again. However, despite his experience in the Senate, his campaign failed to gain momentum.

Last year marked his third run for president...

And saw him go head to head with the notorious President Donald Trump.

It was one hell of a run-up to the election, and of course, the election couldn't have fallen on a worse year! But it powered ahead despite some major setbacks - including Trump's coronavirus diagnosis.

And the votes didn't lie!

After a tense few days of counting (and recounting) votes, it was confirmed that Joe Biden's third run for president had been successful - everyone, meet the forty-sixth president of the United States.

This was a historic win...

Not only because Biden broke Barack Obama's record for the most votes cast for a presidential candidate, but also because vice president-elect, Kamala Harris, will be the first-ever woman of color to be elected in office. Simply amazing.

Of course, President Donald Trump didn't take to this news well, at all...

And after continuously claiming the entire election was "a fix" and that he was the actual winner, Trump recently declared that he won't be attending Biden's inauguration - something that didn't come as a surprise to many.

Trump is also facing impeachment following his behavior over the riots held at the U.S Capitol building...

So we can only imagine how much of a rub in the face Biden's success is for the president.

And to make things even more scandalous...

Getty

Trump has refused to attend Biden's inauguration, something that is deemed as very disrespectful in the world of U.S politics.

Nevertheless, Biden has accepted his win graciously...

And the president-elect, along with his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, have been celebrating along with the rest of the country.

Biden will be inaugurated into office this week on Wednesday, January 20th...

Which is mere days away from now.

Democrats all across the country are eager for the special moment...

Because it's bound to be a historical moment - and that's not just because Trump has refused to attend!

And as for his inauguration theme?

Well, it's America United, of course!

"At a time of unprecedented crisis and deep divisions, America United reflects the beginning of a new national journey that restores the soul of America, brings the country together, and creates a path to a brighter future," a statement from the transition team read.

In addition to the theme, 2 Inauguration Day events have also been announced...

In his first act as president, Biden will lay a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery.

He will be joined by first lady Jill Biden, Kamala Harris, and her husband, Doug Emhoff...

As well as Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton.

Former first ladies Michelle Obama, Laura Bush, and Hillary Clinton will also participate.

The inaugural committee also plans to install an art display on the National Mall.

The "Field of Flags" will include 191,500 American flags, representing the Americans who sadly can't be at the celebration.

"This inauguration marks a new chapter for the American people — one of healing, of unifying, of coming together, of an America united. It is time to turn the page on this era of division", Biden inauguration CEO Tony Allen said.

But of course, Biden won't be the only one getting sworn into office on Wednesday.

Kamala Harris will be sworn in alongside Biden, all while making history as the first-ever woman of color to be sworn into office.

And as for the person Harris has selected to swear her in?

Getty

Well, it's only right for the first woman of color to become vice president to take her oath from the first woman of color to sit on the Supreme Court!

Harris has chosen Justice Sonia Sotomayor for the task, according to a Harris aide who was confirming a report by ABC News.

The vice president-elect and Justice Sotomayor have a shared background as former prosecutors and Harris has even called the justice a figure of national inspiration.

"Judge Sonia Sotomayor has fought for the voices of the people ever since her first case voting against corporations in Citizens United," Harris wrote on Twitter in 2019, "As a critical voice on the bench, she's showing all our children what's possible."

It's going to be a historical day and we simply can't wait to see how it will go!
