Jaun Joya Borja, known on the internet as “Spanish laughing guy” has died.

He was just sixty-five-years-old.

People have flocked to social media to pay tribute…

Better known by his nickname El Risitas, meaning giggles, Borja found fame across the world with his laughter.

Borja first debuted on Spanish television twenty years ago after he appeared on a local programme called Ratones Coloraos.

While on the show, he spoke about when he was a younger and he threw dishes into the sea overnight to clean them.

Recalling the story left Borja in hysterics, and so the iconic video of his unique laughter was born.

However, it wasn’t until around ten years later that he became a meme.

As the internet began re-posting the clip alongside unrelated subtitles.

Borja died in hospital on Wednesday.

ABC de Sevilla reports Borja had been in hospital since last September.

He had a leg amputated due to health issues.

Back in March, Borja thanked fans for fundraising to buy him an electric mobility scooter following his amputation.

Borja’s cause of death has not been confirmed.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Rest in peace, Juan Joya Borja.
