Netflix’s hit show, Squid Game has had success like no one expected…

Especially, O Yeong-Su, better known as Player 001, who has revealed that the show has completely changed his life…

For the better and for the worse.

Now, if you’ve not heard about Squid Game, where have you been?

Created and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the tantalizing thriller tells the story of “hundreds of cash-strapped players accept a strange invitation to compete in children’s games. Inside, a tempting prize awaits — with deadly high stakes.”

It quickly became the first Korean drama to rank at number 1 on Netflix…

And managed to do so only 4 days after its release, beating out other popular K-dramas such as Vincenzo and It’s Okay Not To Be Okay.

It also received a 100% rating on Rotton Tomatoes and a solid 8.3/10 on IMDb.

That’s pretty impressive if you ask us…

And that’s not all, as the show has now become Netflix’s most watched series.

In a tweet, they revealed that it “only took seventeen days and 111M global fans to become our biggest ever series at launch.”

They also added that it is the first series “to surpass 100 million when it premiered.”

Significantly beating the former record made by Bridgerton which saw eighty-two million accounts watch during its first month of release.

A few weeks ago, during the Code conference, Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s co-CEO and Head of Content spoke out about the success, saying this:

Squid Game will definitely be our biggest non-English language show in the world, for sure [and has] a very good chance it’s going to be our biggest show ever.

“We did not see that coming, in terms of its global popularity,” he also admitted.

After seeing the show’s success, Hwang Dong-hyuk was asked if we would be getting another season…

Speaking to Variety on September 24th, Hwang admitted that the process of creating the hit Netflix show has been stressful and it’s not something he’s ready to re-do because of his lack of “teamwork.”

He also said:

“In my earlier days, I’d drink half a bottle of soju [Korean alcohol] to get the creative juices flowing. I can’t do that anymore,” Hwang said. “Writing [Squid Game] was harder than normal for me as it was a series, not a film. It took me 6 months to write and rewrite the first 2 episodes. Then I consulted verbally with friends, and picked up clues for improvements through my own pitching and from their responses.”

However, he did add this on the prospect of writing another season:

“I don’t have well-developed plans for ‘Squid Game 2.’ It is quite tiring just thinking about it. But if I were to do it, I would certainly not do it alone. I’d consider using a writers’ room and would want multiple experienced directors.”

The success of the series has not only astounded Hwang…

But also the actors involved.

O Yeong-su, who you may know as Player 001, has opened up about the surprising success of the series…

And how it has completely changed his life after people fell in love with his character.

Yeong-su opened up about how his life has changed during an appearance on the TV show, How Do I Play where he revealed that he feels like he needs to “calm down.”

“It makes me think, ‘I need to calm down, organize my thoughts, and hold myself back right now,’” he said, as per the Daily Mail.

Following the release of Squid Game, Yeong-su has had so many people contacting him that he’s had to enlist the help of his daughter.

“So many people have been contacting me, and because I don’t have a manager to help me, it’s hard for me to handle the volume of calls and messages I’ve been receiving, so my daughter has been helping me,” he said.

But the amount of people contacting Yeong-su isn’t the only part of his life that has changed either as he now he to be “aware” when he goes out.

“Things have changed quite a bit,” he added. “Even when I go out to a cafe or somewhere like that, I now have to be aware of [how I appear to others]. It’s made me think, ‘Being famous is tough, too.'”

But, despite his new found fame, Yeong-su doesn’t “have any grand ambitions” as he believes he has “received a lot of things while living my life.”

“Now, I want to leave behind those things that I’ve received. To put it simply, let’s say you go to a mountain and see a flower. When we’re young, we pick the flower and take it for ourselves,” he said.

“But by the time you reach my age, you leave it there exactly as it is, and you go back to see it again later on. It’s the same with life. Leaving things exactly the way they are. It isn’t easy.”
