Stephen Colbert Just Ruthlessly Exposed Boy Scouts Program for What It Really Is | 22 Words
onstage during the 69th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards at Microsoft Theater on September 17, 2017 in Los Angeles, California.

Wednesday was a historic day for the scouting world. The Boy Scouts of America finally opened its Cub Scout program to *gasp* girls, allowing them to ascend to the highest scouting rank, the Eagle Scout.

The Boy Scouts had already offered coed programs since 1971 through its Exploring and Venturing program, and its more recent STEM program, however, the new Cub Scout dens will be single sex.

Cool, right? Except...

Not everyone was a fan. The Girl Scouts of the USA cried foul.

In a scorching statement to ABC News, the Girl Scouts said, "The Boy Scouts' house is on fire. Instead of addressing systemic issues of continuing sexual assault, financial mismanagement and deficient programming, BSA's senior management wants to add an accelerant to the house fire by recruiting girls."

Stephen Colbert, however, had a way more brutal take on the news.

So true. BOTH types of scouts are legit terrifying.
