Bindi Irwin has come a long way from the little girl that made the sweetest cameo’s in dad, Steve Irwin’s, documentaries in the early ’00s.

Since the untimely passing of Steve aka The Crocodile Hunter, in 2006, Bindi has managed to make a name for herself in both the television and music industry, following in her late father’s footsteps with her passion for wildlife.

So, of course, the internet was suitably thrilled to see, not only that Bindi announced her surprise engagement on her 21st birthday, but that her brother, Robert, would be walking her down the aisle in Steve’s place.

It seems only right that Bindi would ask her little brother to walk in her late father’s place, and now Robert has spoken out about how he felt to be asked… Keep scrolling to hear what he had to say.

The family owns Australia Zoo, which spans nearly 1000 acres and employs over four-hundred staff but was originally born from the tiny wildlife park that Steve’s family moved to when he was just a child.

As a little girl, she would regularly feature on his documentaries.

At just eight years old, Bindi read out a eulogy during her dad’s memorial service. We can’t imagine how hard that must have been.

The Irwin family has kept Steve’s legacy alive through their important work at Australia Zoo.

The pair met when Powell, who’s now twenty-two, was visiting the zoo while in Australia for a professional wakeboarding competition.

The childhood sweethearts are quite literally a match made in heaven. Powell exhibits the same passion for animals as the Irwin’s, working with Bindi and her family at Australia Zoo in Queensland.

Powell is clearly heavily involved with the family’s conservation work, as Bindi has shared countless images of herself with Powell at the zoo.

On Bindi’s 21st birthday, to mark the occasion, Powell took the plunge and asked her to be his wife.

Bindi was reportedly celebrating her birthday surrounded by friends and family when Powell popped the question.

Announcing the exciting news, Bindi wrote on her Instagram: “July 24th 2019… On my birthday I said ‘yes’ and ‘forever’ to the love of my life. Chandler, close to 6 years ago I fell in love with you and every day since has been a whirlwind of adventure and true happiness. I’m so looking forwarding to spending our forever together as your wife. Here’s to a lifetime of friendship, purpose and unconditional love. — Now let’s get married already!”

“She said YES! Almost 6 years ago we met at Australia Zoo. I immediately fell head over heels for her kind and thoughtful heart that radiates so much light. Proposing in her very favorite place in the zoo, surrounded by animals, seemed like the perfect way to embark on this incredible new chapter in our lives. Bee, I love you more than anything in this world and I always will. Happy Birthday,” he wrote. This is honestly the sweetest thing that we’ve ever read.

The fifteen-year-old gave some brotherly love to his sister, writing that the couple are “true soulmates” and have “always been so completely perfect for each other.”

She shared this adorable family snap while writing about how Steve would be so happy for the couple too.

People flocked to social media to congratulate the pair.

But he’ll definitely be there in spirit and will be so proud.

Chandler posted a snap on Instagram captioned “Cannot wait to “meer-y” this girl @australiazoo next year,” confirming that we can expect to see the pair get hitched in 2020 at Australia Zoo.

So much so, that Bindi shared a sneak peek of her wedding dress for fans.

The bride-to-be shows off a dress featuring long, lace sleeves, all while giving us a close-up shot of her dazzling engagement ring.

“Can’t wait to walk you down the aisle,” he wrote on Twitter yesterday. In response, the bride-to-be wrote: “I love you. Thank you for being the best brother.”

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly last year, Bindi explained, “I’m always so grateful that Robert is there, and he has been such a big part of my life and he’s always stepped up and been the one to give me a hug when I need it and encourage me forward in life.”

“So he will definitely be the one to walk me down the aisle when the time comes,” she continued, “and I think that will make it really special.”

We have to admit, we wouldn’t be entirely surprised at the sight of a crocodile ring-bearer…

And he has revealed that he is completely “stoked” to be walking his sister down the aisle.

Speaking to PEOPLE,  “Oh, I was just so so stoked. I was so excited and really honored for her to ask me to walk her down the aisle.”

Of course he does! Chandler and Robert have struck up quite the friendship, with Robert saying: “Chandler is absolutely perfect. I can’t fault him, he’s awesome.” For more on Robert Irwin, keep scrolling…
