Olivia Chutich, the daughter of Minnesota Supreme Court Justice, Margaret Chutich, was tragically found dead last week…
And today, an autopsy has confirmed her cause of death.
Here’s the full story…
The body of twenty-one-year-old Olivia was discovered in the parking lot of her sorority house on the morning of January 22nd.
Olivia, who had been a junior at Iowa State University, was found unconscious outside of her Delta Delta Delta sorority house.
A passerby called the authorities upon discovering her body…
But, by the time officers arrived, she was pronounced dead.
Her parents, Supreme Court Justice Margaret Chutich, and Allina Health CEO, Penny Wheeler, have expressed their heartbreak over the tragedy.
“Our beautiful and beloved daughter, Olivia, died tragically on January 22nd, 2021. Our hearts are broken into millions of pieces at the loss of her,” they wrote in a heartfelt obituary.
Their tribute continued:
“As her mothers, we know that we were given the most precious of gifts for twenty-one-years. We weren’t perfect parents, and she wasn’t a perfect child, but we were a perfect match. And what a love story it was.”
They explained how, having being born in Guatemala, Olivia came into their lives as an infant…
But that “she was loved from the moment that we set eyes on her and deeply so throughout her too-short life.”
“Her vibrant spirit, heart-on-her-sleeve emotions, kindness, compassion, and glorious smile are remembered by all who crossed her path.”
“Olivia loved gathering with family and friends, playing games (especially “Set” in which she trounced everyone), and cheering on the Gopher and Cyclone teams in sporting events. She made family events much more fun by finding just the right person to tease… Olivia is surrounded by a wide circle of those who loved her beyond words.”
They ended their obituary by requesting that people donate money to plant a tree in Olivia’s honor.
The memorial trees will be planted in a forest with the greatest need, at the best suitable time (typically spring or fall), by a team of certified arborists.
The Delta Delta Delta sorority house also shared a loving tribute to their late sister on Instagram.
“We know the days and weeks ahead will be difficult, but we will always remember Olivia’s contagious laugh, bubbly personality and positive outlook on life,” the message read. “She lit up every room she walked into and made an impact on every single person she met. We are grateful to have been a part of her beautiful life and to have shared a special bond of friendship with her.”
Following the heartfelt tributes, dozens of heartbroken friends and relatives have sent their messages of condolence.
And now, a week on from the tragedy…
An autopsy has revealed the official cause of death.
The autopsy states that Olivia died as a result of acute alcohol intoxication and hypothermia, TooFab reported.
The autopsy supported the finding that there was no evidence of foul play, ruling it as an accidental death.
Rest in peace, Olivia Chutich.
Our thoughts go out to her family during this difficult time.
