There have been endless stories of controlling and obsessive parenting, with some parents smothering their children in protection until they are young adults. A lot of parents do obsessive things in a desperate bid to protect their children from anything that could be potentially harmful... But when are these behaviors considered too far?
Rapper and record producer T.I has recently spoken out in a podcast about how he takes his eighteen-year-old daughter to the gynecologist every year to check if her hymen is still intact. He claims he does this to check that she is still a virgin.
People were completely disgusted at the rapper's actions and have even labeled them as child abuse. Many spoke out about his actions, and let's just say - they are not impressed. Even his wife has broken her silence on the controversy. And now, amid the media storm, T.I's daughter has deleted her Instagram account.
It's no secret that there are many parents out there who are a little too protective of their children.

As their children become teenagers...A lot of parents truly struggle with the thought of their kids becoming sexually active and losing their virginities.
There comes a time in everybody's life when they have to grow up...And the thing that many moms and dads seem to forget is that their kids are no longer children.
The age of consent here in the United States varies depending on the state...

So when a person turns sixteen...

But sadly, not all parents respect this fact...
via: TwitterAnd T.I is one of these controlling parents.
T.I is best known for his career as a rapper and a record producer.
via: Getty ImagesBorn as Clifford Joseph Harris Jr. in September 1980, T.I has made a successful career for himself as a rapper with popular hits such as "Whatever You Like" and "Live Your Life."
The rapper featured on a podcast earlier this week...
via: Getty ImagesHe was speaking on the Life Hacks episode of the Ladies Like Us podcast, and he was asked about whether he had spoken to his children - 2 sons and 1 daughter - about having sex.
His daughter, Deyjah, is now eighteen and has just started college.
via: TwitterSpeaking of Deyjah, T.I said that she was "figuring it out for herself," so "not only" had they already had the conversation, they take yearly trips to the gynecologist together.
You heard that right...T.I, as her father, arranges to take her to the gynecologist once a year to ensure she is still a virgin.
Her virginity is "checked" yearly. But as all women will understand, not all virgins will display classic characteristics of "being a virgin" from activities such as horseriding, gymnastics, using tampons, and even riding a bike. These can all break the hymen that virgins have, which is what is broken during sex.
This means that T.I's insistent and invasive checking of his daughter's virginity is scientifically inaccurate.
via: Getty ImagesThe rapper's claims initially drew laughter from hosts Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham, who thought he was joking or exaggerating... but he wasn't.
It has become somewhat of a tradition between the father and daughter.
via: TwitterHe reportedly said, "So it’s this one time we go, I think this might have been after her 16th birthday. This is what we do. Right after the birthday, we celebrate, usually like the day after the party, she’s enjoying her gifts." "I put a sticky note on the door: ‘Gyno. Tomorrow. 9:30'."
This invasion of privacy is highly disturbing.
via: Getty Images"So we'll go and sit down and the doctor will come and talk and the doctor's maintaining a high level of professionalism. He's like, 'You know Sir, I have to, in order to share information'." He continued saying, "I'm like, 'Deyjah, they want you to sign this so we can share information. Is there anything you wouldn't want me to know?' See Doc? No problem."
He is ignoring the doctor's advice...
via: Getty ImagesT.I then recalled the doctor explaining how the hymen can be broken in other ways, but he clearly wasn't interested because he simply stated, "Just check the hymen please and give me back my results expeditiously."
He isn't allowing his daughter the rights to her own body.
via: TwitterSo far, the results have been to the obsessive father's liking, with him claiming, "I will say as of her eighteenth birthday, her hymen is still intact."
Not only is this an invasion of Deyjah's privacy...
via: TwitterHer obnoxious father has shared her medical information for the entire world to see. Not exactly what a young woman starting college wants...
T.I went on to contradict himself completely. He goes on to suggest that no boy wants to be a virgin, saying, "They're no fun. Who wants a virgin? Like really? All that work!"
T.I also acknowledged that his son King, who is fifteen, is already sexually active.
via: Getty ImagesThe teenager admitted in a June 2019 episode of the family’s VH1 reality show that he’s already having sex. Something you think would cause outrage, judging by his father’s yearly trips to the doctors with his daughter.
This man is in desperate need of a reality check.
via: Getty ImagesIf he thinks that it is okay to completely control and possess his eighteen-year-old daughter's life, whilst allowing his fifteen-year-old son to do whatever he pleases, T.I needs a wake-up call. He needs to realize that he must respect his adult daughter's life.
And, quite understandably, people are completely outraged.
Even if Deyjah wasn’t 18 what TI is doing is a complete invasion of privacy. This ownership that men think they hav… https://t.co/GQP3Csiqul— LAUREN S. 🦋 (@LAUREN S. 🦋)1573066419.0
And others have commented on how his violent behavior. And have noted at his hypocrisy over his attitude towards his son's quite blatantly active sex life.
And many celebrities have also called the rapper out.
via: GettyNever one to keep her lip buttoned, Sharon Osbourne was one of the first to address the situation, explaining on The Talk on Wednesday: "Firstly, he should never ever be talking about his daughter's sex life, ever. And on a podcast? I think it's freaky he would go to the gynecologist with his daughter and to talk about it."
Sharon was not impressed with T.I's actions.
via: Getty"Don't talk about your kids' sex life, about what's going on in their body, it is sacred to them. It's not your life." She added, "Because you're the daddy doesn't give you other rights, it's not your life, let your daughter lead her own life. And keep her privacy."
Chrissy Teigen also shared her thoughts...

The tone was resounding across the full board...As most celebs commented on how his actions have completely sickened them.
And most had a gentle reminder for T.I...

Yet, despite T.I's blatant control issues...
I feel bad for miss Deyjah. Her business all on social media being discussed all bc her daddy wanna be an asshat in interviews.— 🕵🏾♀️ (@🕵🏾♀️)1573062368.0
People have been waiting for T.I.'s daughter to make a comment.
via: TwitterBut eighteen-year-old Deyjah Harris has remained tight-lipped, not releasing a statement to the press.
Or, that's what we thought.
via: TwitterBut internet detectives actually tracked down Deyjah's social media - and it speaks volumes.
Firstly, check out her liked Tweets.
via: TwitterShe's been favoriting several opinions stating her dad is being overly possessive, controlling, and even "disgusting." Wow.
And that's not all.
via: TwitterShe also opted for this rather conspicuous retweet. Or are we reading too much into it??
Either way, it seems Deyjah is standing up for herself. And (needless to say) we're totally on Deyjah's side. We're just curious if she'll actually speak out on this weird and creepy issue.
Another twist in the tale soon surfaced.
via: Getty ImagesSocial media seems to be the site where all of this is going down - and people are noticing some pretty sketchy stuff.
Because in spite of Deyjah not actually saying anything ...She is definitely communicating through her social media channels.
She first unfollowed her famous father. Both on Deyjah's verified Instagram and unverified Twitter accounts have no T.I in sight!
And that's not all.
And the next to speak up was T.I's wife, Tameka ‘Tiny’ Harris.
But of course, her comments were inundated with people asking about Deyjah.
And it was brief, to say the least...
via: Instagram"Is Deyjah okay? We care…" a user person commented, but instead of explaining how her stepdaughter is doing, Tiny replied with a series of eye-roll emojis.
Her support suggests she condones T.I.'s disturbing treatment of his daughter.
As of now, T.I. has remained silent amidst the backlash.
We can't imagine this is an easy time for Deyjah.
via: Getty ImagesAnd her latest social media move suggests she really might be struggling.
It can't be easy being Deyjah right now.
via: TwitterHaving pretty much the whole internet talking about your hymen is pretty horrific stuff.
There's no real way to address a story like this one.
via: TwitterSo Deyjah has done something kind of drastic.
After so much scrutiny on her social media pages ...
via: TwitterDeyjah has made the decision to delete all of her social media accounts.
Both Deyjah's Twitter and Instagram accounts have disappeared from the internet.
via: TwitterWe can't say we blame her - after the weeks she's had, we'd be in need of a digital detox, too.
We just hope she's doing ok.
via: TwitterAnd that Deyjah's time away from the internet will give her the respite we're sure she needs.
