Since the death of George Floyd, protests for the movement have been happening across the globe in volumes we’ve never seen before.
But George’s death has sparked an outrage like never before.
And they are all marching for one thing: For the blatant racism and injustice in this country to be brought to an end.
But change needs to happen and, at the moment, this seems like the only way to make it happen.
Thanks to these riots, the Black Lives Matter movement is dominating global headlines, and it has completely taken over social media.
For instance, a group of people painted large yellow letters saying “Black Lives Matter” down two blocks of 16th Street in D.C – a two-lane road that coincidentally leads to the White House.
Hundreds of thousands of people have been taking to the streets in the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
And people are continuing to demand justice.
Amongst the stories of positivity from the protests, there have been some tales with a slightly more sour undertone.
Blatant racism is still happening across our country…
And countless stories of black people being targeted and unfairly treated are continuing to emerge.
A man has come forward with claims that his former employer, Taco Bell, fired him because he was wearing a Black Lives Matter face mask.
Sat in his car wearing the white mask, which has the BLM logo emblazoned across the front, Denzel explained that he wore the mask because the surgical masks provided by Taco Bell to their employees proved to be inadequate in warm conditions.
But, because of the poor conditions of the company-provided masks, Denzel refused to swap the masks.
But his manager informed him that, if he were to leave, he would be fired.
In the video, Denzel seems genuinely shellshocked at what had just happened, and he falls into silence on several occasions.
Since he shared his Facebook Live, thousands of people have expressed their horror at his situation.
Especially considering their CEO, Mark King, issued a statement about his support on the movement just a few weeks ago.
And the hashtag, #RIPTacoBell has started to trend on Twitter.
The fast food chain said in a statement that, due to mask shortages, employees are in fact allowed to use their own masks or face coverings.
They said that they are “disappointed to learn what took place in Youngstown. We are working with our franchisee that operates this location to understand what happened.”
And they reiterated: “We believe in Black Lives Matter.”
