After Travis Kelce’s team lost on Christmas day, his girlfriend is the one taking the heat.
When it comes to sports, there is never any shortage of fan theories.
Because a lot of professional athletes end up dating famous women, some fans tend to blame their significant others for bad performances.
One of the most famous examples of this is the “Kardashian curse,” which extends much further than sports.
Kendall Jenner has a known affinity for NBA players, having dated Blake Griffin, Ben Simmons, and most recently, Devin Booker.
Whenever those basketball players would have a bad game during their relationship, a lot of the public would blame Jenner and the infamous “Kardashian curse.”
Now that Taylor Swift is dating a famous athlete, she’s experiencing that same phenomenon.
The “Karma” singer has been dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce publicly since September, when she was first spotted at one of his games.
Over the past few months, the baller has had a much better record when Swift comes to his games, showing just how important her support is.
Most recently, Taylor was in attendance at Kelce’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas day.
Unfortunately, her presence didn’t serve as good luck, this time around.
Kelce and his quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, suffered a 20-14 defeat to their AFC West rivals at Arrowhead Stadium.
A video that captures Kelce’s frustration during the game has drawn significant attention, showing just how much he wanted to win.
Unfortunately, a lot of fans have shifted the blame of the loss over to Taylor, speaking of a curse similar to the one talked about with the Kardashian family.
As the Chiefs struggle, fans are questioning whether the singer–who was once considered a good luck charm–has become the opposite.
After a failed fake punt attempt–which led to the Raiders scoring 14 points via defensive touchdowns in just 7 seconds–Kelce’s frustration reached a boiling point.
The tight end removed his helmet, started yelling, and then threw it toward the sidelines, where it ricocheted into the staff area.
As a result,fans have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction with Kelce, criticizing him for spending too much time on his relationship and other ventures and not enough on the field.
“Too much time working on Pfizer commercials, not enough time on the practice field,” one fan wrote.
Another tweeted, “So are we going to acknowledge the Taylor Swift curse or…?”
On the other hand, one fan joked about how nonsensical the curse talk really is, pointing out that the real problem is likely Kelce’s age and history of injuries.
“The Taylor Swift Curse (turning 34 and battling injuries all year long while being the only viable weapon on your offense),” the user wrote on social media.
Regardless of their most recent loss, Travis’ performance still tends to improve when Swift is present at the games.
To date, he has made 49 catches for 627 yards and scored two touchdowns when she’s watching, averaging seven catches and 89.6 yards per game.
In contrast, in the games where Swift was not present this season, Kelce has made 36 catches for 300 yards and scored three touchdowns, averaging six catches and 50 yards per game, according to Y! Sports.Â
Despite the numbers saying otherwise, talks of a curse began after Kansas City lost the subsequent two games that Swift attended.Â
Now, some are attributing the Chiefs’ loss in four of their past seven games to Swift.
Regardless of their chatter surrounding their lives together, it’s safe to say Kelce’s relationship with Swift has nothing to do with his problems on the field.
Hopefully, the next game Taylor attends ends in a win for the Chiefs so their fans can stop pointing the finger.
