Following the backlash from his spontaneous trip to sunny Cancun as Texas froze over, Sen. Ted Cruz has been doing some serious backtracking, which includes sharing photos of himself helping struggling Texans.
However, people are not at all impressed by his photos and have taken to Twitter to slam his efforts.
Here's the full story...
Now, the people of Texas really aren't happy with Sen. Ted Cruz at the moment.
Since he fled snow-stricken Texas to sun-soaked Cancun last week, people have been left feeling both furious and let down by the Republican Senator.
The winter storm that has been wreaking havoc across many southern U.S states is now worse than ever...
And Texas is the worst affected.
Due to the usually warm state being completely unprepared for below-freezing temperatures, thousands have been forced to evacuate their homes...
And the addition of heavy snowstorms has left the state completely powerless in most areas.
Dozens of deaths have been linked to the extreme weather conditions...
Brutal cold hung over Texas and the central United States on Tuesday, bringing chaos to parts of the U.S. not used to severe winter weather.

At least 23 people died across four states, from icy roads and other weather-related incidents.https://t.co/o8gGy927p2 pic.twitter.com/YlB1XYtPDT
And as temperatures continue to fall, this number is sadly set to rise.
Texans are doing their best to push through this difficult period...
We are deploying plainclothes officers in unmarked vehicles across the city looking for anyone burglarizing residences or businesses during power outages. This is a natural disaster and penalty enhancements can lead to 20 year prison sentences. If you need help there are services

But with many suffering from a loss of power, electricity, and hot running water, they have been forced to make do with what they've got.
People have been taking to social media to share some dreadful new living situations during the unbearable temperatures...
This is how cold it is at my Apartment.

As a Texan, yes, I'm certainly not built for this. I don't even care. pic.twitter.com/FMt8imglJp
Including this Twitter user whose fan had literally frozen to the ceiling and had icicles dangling down from it.
President Biden declared a state of emergency in Texas...

And ordered federal assistance from the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency to supplement local response efforts.
So, it is hardly surprising that people were utterly outraged to hear of the actions of Texan Senator Ted Cruz.
Instead of staying in the state and working hard to help his people, it was reported at the start of last week that the Republican Senator decided to pack up his bags and flee to sun-soaked Cancun in Mexico.
He was spotted in a Houston airport with his wife and daughters queuing for a United Airlines flight on February 17th.
It appears in the middle of the worst energy crisis in the history of Texas, @tedcruz is on his way to Cancun with his family. pic.twitter.com/aEdiqdn70j

It is strongly believed by the person who took the pictures that the Senator boarded a flight that departed at 4.44 pm and landed in Cancun at 7.52 pm.
Of course, this didn't sit well with Texas' residents...
It isn't JUST that Ted Cruz left TX during a disaster—though that is bad enough. It's also that he went on vacation to MX during a pandemic. He defended Trump's remarks about Mexicans being drug dealers & rapists. Funny how MX is the first place he escapes to when shit gets hard.

Who were - and still are - living and struggling in below-freezing conditions.
Texans quickly took to tweeting Cruz photos of their dire living conditions...
@tedcruz Hey teddy! No, this isn't salt for your Cancun margaritas, this is snow I'm boiling so I can wash my hands and flush toilets. And even still I'm lucky to have power rn. Don't have too much fun in Mexico or forget to wear sunscreen! #CancunCruz #AbbottResign #AustinTx pic.twitter.com/vuXsYcvTFk

In an attempt to bring him back to his senses.
The Texas Democratic Party then called on Cruz to resign...

"Ted Cruz jetting off to Mexico while Texans remain dying in the cold isn't surprising but it is deeply disturbing and disappointing," Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa said.
"Cruz is emblematic of what the Texas Republican Party and its leaders have become: weak, corrupt, inept, and self-serving politicians who don't give a damn about the people they were elected to represent. They were elected by the people but have no interest or intent of doing their jobs."
Well, quite predictably, Cruz hastily backtracked following the outrage...
As the Senator was spotted on a flight back to Houston the following day.
Cruz landed back in Texas with his tail between his legs...
And, in a very awkward statement to ABC News, admitted that his travels were "obviously a mistake" and "in hindsight, I wouldn't have done it."
Of course, he failed to issue any form of apology to the people of Texas who are continuing to suffer.
"The moment I sat on that plane I really began second-guessing that decision."
"It had been my intention to work remotely, to be on the phone and to be on the internet... But I needed to be here."
Well, in the aftermath of his poorly timed trip, Cruz has been desperately attempting to regain any form of reputation...
But his latest effort has backfired massively.
In new photos posted onto his Twitter account, Cruz could be seen helping a Texan resident load their car with supplies...
AOC raises over 3 mil for Texas. Ted Cruz sets up a photo op carrying a case of water. Seems about right.

But, of course, people are less than impressed.
Well, that is the only water @tedcruz has ever carried for Texas.

He probably was just putting groceries into his own damn van.

I mean. Regardless of any political opinion. There are some facts.
— Brian (@bridogz) February 21, 2021
Senators aren’t elected to put cases of water in cars. Anyone can do that. That’s how warped his understanding of what he did wrong was, and what his duty is.
Here's the Tweet in question.

— Senator Ted Cruz (@SenTedCruz) February 21, 2021
In the series of photos, Cruz could be seen extending an arm to a female shopper and lifting bottles of water into various cars, alongside the caption, "#TexasStrong."
What do you think? An innocent gesture of kindness, or a horrendously staged publicity stunt?
