Kailyn Lowry has recently made headlines with her unusual baby naming choices. Fans have been eagerly waiting for her to disclose the names of her newborn twins, and now they have something to talk about.
Now, all parents can agree that raising a child is hard.
It requires a ton of responsibility and it most certainly is the challenge of a lifetime.
Of course, the sleepless nights, the exhaustion, and the hard work are totally worth it…
Because our children mean the entire world to us!
This means that the thought of anything happening to them is unbearable…
And although we do everything in our power to keep them safe, things can sometimes go wrong.
We can literally take our eyes off our kids for 3 seconds when out in public…
And the worst thing imaginable is them disappearing or being taken by a stranger.
And there are other important things all parents want to do to keep their children safe.
But sometimes parents don’t make the best decisions…
This has recently been the case for Teen Mom star Catelynn Lowell.
Lowell has been criticized by fans for her decision to leave her 3 daughters in the care of her mum, April Brockmiller.
According to The Mirror, the MTV star asked Brockmiller to babysit her children, Novalee, Vaeda, and Rya, while she accompanied her husband Tyler Baltierra to a hospital appointment to get a vasectomy.
In the latest episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, Lowell’s friend Amber asked the couple who would be watching their children, with Lowell reluctantly admitting her mum would babysit.
“I asked my mom to come and sit here,” she said before she explained her concerns regarding Brockmiller’s drinking habits.
“I was telling Ty, ‘Well, if she drove here and watched them, she wouldn’t be drinking because she won’t drink and drive,” Lowell added.
“I’m in this moment in my life where I know it’s kind of hard to trust her not to drink with my kids around, really,” Lowell admitted.
Amber then questioned Lowell’s decision but the mom-of-three said she also needed to have a conversation with her mum about her drinking.
“I want to have the conversation with her. I don’t want to be around her when she drinks, and I need to stick to that, and I don’t want you drinking around my kids when you have them,” she said.
However, some viewers have been concerned by Lowell’s decision, as one person tweeted: “April is making typical excuses for someone not making good choices. Oh yeah, I was drinking for a couple of weeks more than normal but it’s stopped.”
Another said: “So Cate admitted that she knows April has drunk while watching the kids at least once and is still using her as a babysitter. Yikes.”

Kailyn Lowry’s Naming Reveal
Lowry, at 31, shared the much-anticipated names of her fraternal twins via a heartwarming social media video.Â
The twins, born in November 2023, have been affectionately named Valley and Verse.
The Names That Didn’t Make the Cut
Of course, baby naming is no simple task, and Lowry had a plethora of names on her secondary list that didn’t quite make it to the birth certificates.Â
She had a list for both genders, with her boyfriend, Elijah Scott, weighing in on the decision.
The Girls’ List
For her baby girl, Lowry considered a variety of names:
Willamina
Selah/Sayla
Halo
Millie
Sway
Ivory
Anastasia
Scotlyn
The Boys’ List
The boys’ list was equally diverse, with names like:
Miller
Penn
Croix/Kroy
Spade
Golden
Wells
After much deliberation, the couple settled on the unique names Valley and Verse for their girl and boy, respectively.
Fans React to Name Choices
Fans didn’t shy away from sharing their opinions on the Teen Mom’s potential baby names. One fan humorously suggested, “Might as well name her kids soap, sparkling water, and beer,” alluding to the potential name “Croix.”
“Croix…seriously?” a second fan questioned, while another echoed, “Croix!! Pronounced as kroy?? Even worse.”
Others critiqued the inconsistency in Lowry’s taste, with names ranging from the preppy ‘Miller, Penn, and Wells’ to the unconventional ‘Croix, Spade, and Golden’.
Criticism Doesn’t Stop at Baby Names
Sadly, it wasn’t just the nearly-selected names that received criticism. Lowry’s final choices, Valley and Verse, were also met with harsh comments.
“ITS WORSE THEN I PREDICTED!!! VERSE! She named her kid VERSE!!!” one fan exclaimed.
Another fan jumped in, saying, “She thinks she is a celebrity now so she has to choose ‘wacky’ names. She is a weirdo.”
Keeping Mum About Giving Birth
Lowry had kept quiet after giving birth, only revealing her newborns’ names months later. In an episode of her podcast Barely Famous, she shared her traumatic C-section experience and the joy of finally having her babies.
In the video revealing the names, the twins were seen wrapped in blue and pink blankets with their names written in white lettering.
The video also featured shots of Lowry and Scott, their older brother Rio, and the twins in their massive Delaware mansion.
The Lowry-Scott Family
Lowry is a mother to six children in total. In addition to the twins, she has Isaac (14) with ex Jo Rivera, Lincoln (10) with ex-husband Javi Marroquin, and sons Lux (6) and Creed (3) with ex Chris Lopez.
