But, in recent weeks it has been a lot more serious than usual.

Whoopi Goldberg caused a lot of controversy on the show after sharing her opinion on the Holocaust.

It all started in January when Goldberg said “it was not about race.”

This didn’t go down too well with the audience who started a petition calling for her to be removed from The View.

Goldberg was discussing the Tennessee school board’s controversial decision to ban Maus, a graphic novel about the Holocaust.

This led the comedian to say some very controversial statements, which wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

“Let’s be truthful about it because the Holocaust isn’t about race. No. It’s not about race!”

Reports further suggest that the comedian was constantly trying to prove her point that the Holocaust was about “man’s inhumanity to man” despite her co-hosts trying to protest against her surprising views.

“The minute you turn it into race, it goes down this alley. Let’s talk about it for what it is. It’s how people treat each other. It’s a problem,” she continued.

“It doesn’t matter if you are black or white because black, white, Jews, Italians – everybody eats each other,” she said.

But that didn’t hold her back from saying more…

Taking the book as a reference, Goldberg said: “I mean, it’s about the Holocaust, the killing of six million people, but that didn’t bother you?”

Soon after, a petition on Change.org was created, demanding Goldberg to “be fired from the daytime TV show for her repulsive verbiage and actions.”

The petition read: “Whoopi has made numerous remarks about race that have ruffled feathers. But her most recent comment attacking victims of the holocaust and the entire Jewish community are disgusting. Apologies are not enough when it comes to things like this, This can and will not be forgotten.”

And it’s not the first time Goldberg has got herself into a controversy…

Earlier this month, Goldberg said “a**” while talking about parenting on the daytime talk show. She said, “Sometimes you have to be an a** to be a parent.”

As per The Sun, the comedian’s usage of words disappointed the audience at home.

Fans have continued to express their outrage on social media since the controversial Holocaust comment…

One fan wrote: “@WhoopiGoldberg @TheView @JoyVBehar you should all be ashamed of the of everything that comes out of your s&$@ mouths. Hypocrite is all you are. Everyone if you!”

But then there was an odd one who felt she shouldn’t get fired…

“I hope Whoopi doesn’t get fired and put poor Omar the tent-maker out of work.” tweeted one fan.

But that’s not all, as her comments appeared to have a huge impact on viewers…

Amid the Twitter outrage, producers saw a dramatic decline in the show’s rating.

According to The Sun, the ratings for the week of 6 June to 10 June have declined to 2.28 million as compared to recent years, when 2.36 million viewers witnessed the show in 2021.

But fans are no longer sitting on the fence about the comedian getting fired…

On Twitter, many people have shared similar opinions, calling the actress “out of touch,” as one person said: “Whoopi Goldberg should be fired ASAP… A racist and man-hater.”

But Goldberg isn’t the only one facing her fair share of criticism online, Sherri Shepherd has also been called out for comments she made on the show.

The comedian mentioned her 17-year-old son Jeffrey on the show this week, saying he spends an “hour at a time” in his bedroom.

Joy Behar responded to her comment, saying: “Gee, I wonder what he’s doing in there.”

Shepherd replied: “Imma tell you this, all the men in my life said just get lotion and put it in his room and back out the door.”

This gained an audible gasp from the audience, resulting in Ana Navarro saying: “Sherri TMI!”

Despite this, she continued, sharing that she’s been celibate for a long time since having her children, “I gotta lock my door ’cause – ya know, Kandi Burruss, I order toys from Kandi Burruss all the time. And the problem is, as you get older, you get more tired…

“I fell asleep with one of the toys in my hand, and Jeffrey likes to walk in my room, and I woke up – because kids just stand there and look at you. So, I’m laying and I go, ‘What are you doing?’”

Shepherd added: “The thing was still on.”

Viewers were quick to voice their horror at her comments on social media, with one Twitter user writing: “If I were Sherri Shepherd’s son, I’d be mortified and never speak to my mother again. Like – for real???”

“As a fan of “The View”, I feel disgusted with Sherri Shepherd’s appearance today. I really DO NOT CARE to hear about your s*x life, s*x toys, and lifelong quest for a relationship… Not only disappointed by your lack of humor but offended by your lack of class. UGH!” another wrote.
