It's the new year, which means we all get to reflect on the absolute absurdity that was the year 2018. We had a lot of ups and a lot of downs, but there were definitely some outstanding and memorable moments that the internet experienced together.

It was a great year for memes and music and a hilarious year for viral internet challenges and trends. Some were pretty questionable, but that never stops the internet from doing it anyway, and it definitely doesn't stop the rest of us from retweeting and laughing at all of it.

Reflecting is good, especially when it involves remembering cute doggies, great songs, and fake magic tricks. Let's get nostalgic!

Can you believe it?

2018 is over and for some of us, that's the best news they've heard in a long time.

Boy bye

We're ready to put the past behind us and move on to bigger, and better things.

Not so fast

Before we move on, let's take a look back at the trends that took the Internet by surprise, and spread faster than a Kardashian family pregnancy announcement.

Some serious LOL moments

These viral trends spread across popular social media sites and started hashtags that set the Internet into a hilarious riot. Some of these trends were adorable, others were quite absurd, but nonetheless, they were all worth watching and laughing at.

Wakanda Forever

Black Panther came out this year (I know, I can't believe it either) and it sparked a new trend online that fans jumped on left and right.

Mbaku Challenge

Mbaku, one of the main characters in the movie, had a pretty epic speech that viewers loved. Fans took to Twitter to reenact the "challenge day" monologue by Mbaku and added a little bit of drama for the heck of it.

Serious commitment

Fans were dedicated to memorizing this scene and acting it out with some punch and a whole lot of perfection.

Mbaku would be proud

Who knew this speech would take on the entire Internet? I bet Mbaku didn't have the slightest idea.

Quite convincing

What made this trend so great was the fact that fans went all out and pretty much nailed their Mbaku impersonation. It was really impressive and hilarious to watch.

Snoot challenge

This might be one of the cutest challenges that graced the world wide web. It was as simple as dogs sticking their cute noses into their owners' hands or holes where their faces fit perfectly.

It's so pure

These dogs fit their perfect little faces right in these holes. How did they know how to do this?! I am amazed by their intelligence.

How is this level of cuteness possible?

I didn't think dogs could get any cuter. But they do. They always do.

Flat face fail

Not every doggo could accept the challenge, but it didn't stop them from trying and looking adorable while doing it.

Golden Retriever egg challenge

Another perfectly pure viral trend that kind of made me emotional. Apparently golden retrievers mouths are so gentle they could hold an egg and it wouldn't break.

Such goodness

Twitter loved this one and many pet lovers filmed their own golden retrievers gently holding onto an egg.

It didn't always work though

Again, doggos are adorable but sometimes can't do everything right.

Neymar challenge

The Neymar challenge was inspired when Brazilian soccer star Neymar got injured in a game, and many fans thought he was overreacting. Just as the internet always does, they all hopped on the train to mock him and make a meme out of it.

Challenge accepted

People nailed this challenge and tried to be as dramatic as possible.

Everyone got involved

A whole crowd got on board for this one. Imagine if you were the few people who didn't know what was going on, you'd probably be freaking out.

The APES**T challenge

If you were somehow under a rock this entire year and didn't know that the Carters came out with an amazing album, you might have missed out on this challenge. The music video for this epic song is what started the trend and it was hilarious.

Wildin' out

Grab some sheets and lose your mind and you've basically nailed this challenge.

That's a good effort

I mean, imitation is the biggest form of flattery. Even though no one will ever do it like Beyoncé.

A true hit

I never got tired of this challenge. This song is the greatest, and I'm not the only one who thinks that. It was also Obama's most listened to song from 2018 so you know it must be good.

The Matilda Challenge

Okay, this was one of my all-time favorite of 2018. It took effort, lots of practice and dedication. If done perfectly, it can be the most amazing challenge to have ever hit the Internet.

It's a bop

Inspired by the classic movie Matilda, this challenge showed people channeling Matilda's powers to open some doors and turn on some lights, like the original scene.

This is the kind of stuff I love

A truly wholesome challenge. It's almost impossible not to be impressed by this one.

This weird hand thing

This trend never had an official name, but man did people love it.

The ladies nailed this one

I mean, how does this even happen?

Okay, not all the ladies...

You get an A for effort, girl. It was worth a try.

This other weird hand thing

Dele Alli, an English footballer, posted a picture that challenged the entire Internet. He used two different hand gestures which people online imitated.

This is some real magic

How is this even possible?

This is not human

Some people got a little carried away with this challenge.

Kiki, do you love me?

Drake, in classic Drake-like manner, came out with a single that took over the whole world. "In My Feelings" was played all over the radio and eventually got its own dance challenge.

Even the band loved it

It was hard not to jump on this trend, but organizing this band movement may have been harder .

Celebrities and cars

Celebrities really jumped on this trend, but they also jumped out of their cars, quite literally. The weird and dangerous addition to this trend was that people started jumping out of their moving cars while doing the dance.

Until this happened

We never said these viral trends would be safe.

What the fluff challenge

This challenge involves a blanket, a slight of hand and a confused dog.

Our poor dogs. They love us so well and how do we respond? We scare the crap out of them and confuse their perfect little puppy minds.

Every good trend has a good fail

Again, not every trend is going to be a hit.

Invisible person challenge

This one was a GENIUS challenge. It originated from a skit on Netflix's Magic for Humans where magician Justin Willman used not magic, but good old-fashioned trickery, to make a few guys think they were invisible.

Give this one a go

It's quite easy to try this trick at home, and even better when you get more people involved.

Not everyone loved it

Many younger siblings were not fans of this one, but it definitely made the rest of us laugh.

In conclusion

2018 was freaking weird. How some of these trends came to be, we'll never really know. But that did not stop people from doing them, no matter the danger.

Thank u, next

Well those were great and all, but I think next year we can do better.

Onto the next one

2019, we're ready for you. Bring us some new viral challenges; we can't wait to see what's next. Share this with your friends to reflect on one of the weirdest years yet.
