But, as it turns out, the beloved cat is actually a more popular choice of a pet than the high-maintenance and very needy dog.

Not only are they adorable...

Cats are also very independent pets who clean themselves and they generally create a minimal fuss in the house.

But not all cats enjoy being kept indoors...

It is believed that the breed was brought to Norway by the Vikings around 1000 AD, and even though the Norwegian Forest cat was nearly declared as extinct during WW2, they made a come-back in the 1970s.

It is undeniable how gorgeous these cats are...

And who wouldn't want one of these beauties for a pet?!

A woman from Norway fell head over heels in love with an 8-week-old kitten...

The woman, who is called Camilla, brought home her new Norwegian Forest kitten and named him Pepper... and she also created a special Instagram account for him - @we.are.chilipepper.

Pepper grew up to be a magnificent feline...

And he truly looks like the pet of a Nordic God.

Perhaps one of the most photogenic cats... ever?

Pepper spends a lot of time outdoors, but of course, he enjoys spending quality time with his mom and dad in the warm indoors also.

Camilla could tell that Pepper was restless and bored when she and her boyfriend were away at work...

So they decided to get him some company.

The couple adopted a Bengal kitten...

The little girl was named Chili, and it didn't take long for her and Pepper to become the best of friends.

Pepper and Chili were very settled together...

But it didn't take long for Camilla to extend the family.

The couple went on to adopt a fourteen-week-old Maine Coon...

Her name is Limo and just like her big brother and sister, she is absolutely stunning!

Pepper instantly took on a paternal role with little Limo...

And according to Camilla, he would protect her and show her around her new home.

Pepper seems to be the leader of the small pack...

“Pepper is the calm and wise one, like an old soul. He’s a little stubborn (like his mom), but he has a heart of gold," Camilla explained.

Chili is the mischievous girl of the pack...

“Chili is the spicy one, a typical Bengal; very talkative, active, and smart. At home, she goes by the name FOMO – she really has the fear of missing out, following us around wherever we go. She’s always in the mood for a good play. Oh, and food. She’s always hungry," Camilla said fondly.

Limo, on the other hand, is super sweet and curious...

“She greets us every day by ‘cleaning’ the windows in our hallway. She’s also very talkative, like her sister. She always appreciates a good belly rub and often drowns her toys in the water bottle. She’s also a good climber, both outside, in the woods, and in our house."

All 3 cats spend a lot of time in the wild...

Supervised by Camilla and her boyfriend, of course!

Last year, Camilla made the decision to let the cats roam freely outside whenever they please...

“This is a very common practice in Norway, and the cats have lots of kitty-friends to play with in the neighborhood. Luckily, they spend more time in the forest than exploring the streets."

But as a safety precaution...

The cats are each tracked by GPS... just for that peace of mind.

“The cats love freedom, and we can clearly see how happy they are after our decision."
