Members of the LGBTQ+ community have unjustly had to put up with and fight through hate and discrimination for years, and it's apparent that there are still bigotted individuals out there who can't view the world with an open and accepting mind.
And this upcoming movie has just proved that yet again.
Keep scrolling for the official trailer that has made a lot of people very angry...
A new movie has stolen the spotlight for its controversial storyline...
via: Getty ImagesBut this one has gone as far as completely offending a whole group of people in our society...
The LGBTQ community is stronger than ever.Since the annual observance of LGBT History Month began in the U.S. in 1994, the growth and acceptance of this community has been absolutely staggering.
LGBTQ identifying people are prouder than ever before...
via: ShutterstockAnd, because of the growing numbers of barriers being broken down, more and more people are coming out openly and proudly as LGBTQ.
But discrimination still lurks.
via: ShutterstockDespite amazing development, an array of sick and narrow-minded individuals who spread constant hatred and fear amongst this community are still in existence.
Discrimination comes in many different forms.
via: ShutterstockWhether it's in the form of cyber-bullying or in the form of a violent physical act, discrimination against the LGBTQ community is rife. No type of discrimination is okay.
These hate crimes are happening all over the world and it's not okay.
via: ShutterstockIt's a heartbreaking reality that hate crimes against the community still happen.
Education is key.
via: ShutterstockIt is common knowledge that those who discriminate against and abuse members of the LGBTQ community are often uneducated on the topic, and are lashing out against something unfamiliar to them.
And this is why education on the topic is so important.
via: ShutterstockThe more people that are educated about the community, the fewer hate crimes and attacks there will be against LGBTQ+ identifying people.
Stonewall is renowned for its campaign work and lobbying.
via: ShutterstockAnd they have assisted in achieving the equalization of the age of consent, lifting the ban on LGBT people serving in the military, securing legislation which allowed same-sex couples to adopt and have even helped to secure same-sex marriages.
They have achieved so much for the community...
via: ShutterstockAnd they're nowhere near ready to stop anytime soon.
According to Stonewall, a whopping forty-five percent of LGBTQ+ identifying pupils are bullied...
via: ShutterstockAnd the group believes that this statistic could be lowered significantly if children were educated about the community from an earlier age.
But of course, discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community doesn't just happen in schools...
via: Getty ImagesIt's rife in the workplace too.
But while people are trying to minimize the hatred and bigotry towards the community...It seems as though more and more problems are still cropping up.
And this bizarre film has now taken the spotlight for its controversial storyline...
via: ChangeIt's so bad that thousands of people have signed a petition to make sure it doesn't get to theaters.
Have you heard of the film Adam.
via: IMDbAccording to it's IMDb description, this is meant to be a "comedy" and it tells the story of an "awkward teen Adam spends his last high school summer with his big sister, who throws herself into NYC's lesbian and trans activist scene. In this coming-of-age comedy, Adam and those around him encounter love, friendship, and hard truths."
The petition outlines the reasons why this film needs to be canceled...
via: IMDbIt says this: "Adam the movie. It is a film adaptation of a terrible book. A quick summary of the book is: A cis man falls in love with a lesbian. So he fakes being a trans man. Then has a relationship with her. They have a fallout and break up. Then she goes and dates a cis man right after that. Which is implying that once a lesbian dates a man she is “cured" from being attracted to women. Which is very untrue. This movie is putting down trans men as not being real men. By implying that a lesbian would date a trans man. Which isn’t true, because a lesbian only finds WOMEN sexually or romantically attractive. This movie puts down Lesbian and Trans culture. Which the LGBT+ community does not tolerate. Please help me and the rest of the community stop a very terrible movie from coming out."
The comments under the petition are very troubling too...
via: ChangeAll the comments under the post condemned the film for its controversial storyline.
This user commented this:
Someone else mentioned the President's name, as he is openly prejudiced against the community.
via: ChangeIt's 2020, grow up.
A lot of people held the same opinion...
via: ChangeNeither do we!
It leaves a tasteless impression and, according to some, promotes lesbians as "easily fluid."
