Long gone are the days where you meet your soul mate out in a bar or in your local coffee shop… These days, true love is found online.
Literally.
There are endless dating websites and apps out there that line-up and display potential love interests from your local area.
Just as casually as you would while browsing for groceries at the supermarket.
And boom! You’ve met someone, all at the touch of a button (or the swipe of a screen, in some instances).
And, as of 2017, forty percent of Americans admitted to meeting their partner or spouse online.
So, obviously, the online method of finding love is doing something right.
But, with its many pros, comes its many cons.
Meeting up with strangers off the internet has always carried with it a negative stigma, and it isn’t difficult to see why.
It can be incredibly dangerous.
And many of us can’t help but feel uneasy when meeting up with a total stranger for the first time.
There’s an even bigger issue surrounding the whole prospect of online dating.
It’s the fact that we’re all in self-isolation.
Well, most of us are.
The COVID-19 pandemic that’s currently sweeping the globe has put many major cities in full lockdown, including their inhabitants.
In a last-ditch attempt to prevent the spread of the potentially deadly virus, world leaders have ordered people to self-isolate for at least 2 weeks.
How on earth are us singletons supposed to find love now?
Hundreds of bars, cafes, and restaurants have closed their doors, with hundreds more set to follow suit in the following weeks.
So, that’s all the ideal first-date options thrown out of the window.
Well, it was until Tinder stepped in.
Everyone’s favorite dating app, Tinder, has come forward with a revolutionary new feature that could possibly end everyone’s quarantine woes.
Singletons may be struggling to connect with people a little more than they usually would.
Starting next week, Tinder’s ever-so-desired Passport feature will be free for all users up until April 30th.
Tinder’s Passport is a paid feature usually reserved for Tinder Plus & Gold subscribers, and enables swipers to search by city or drop a pin on the map anywhere in the world.
Tinder’s Passport will be made available to everyone.
Writing on their website, Tinder explained:
“In these trying times, while we all know we need to stay home, this doesn’t mean we have to be alone with our thoughts. Having someone to talk to can make a world of difference. And that’s why we decided that starting next week we’ll make our Passport feature, free to everyone, everywhere through April 30th.”
“Our hope is that you use the Passport feature to virtually transport yourself out of self-quarantine to anywhere in the world. You can check in on folks in their hometown, college town, or sister city, and find those across the world who are going through the same things. If nothing else, you can learn how to say “hey” in another language.”
Though I have a feeling some people may use it for other things… A global, unsolicited d*ck pic, anyone?
