Yesterday, treasured Hollywood legend, Tom Hanks, announced that he and his wife had been diagnosed with coronavirus and, now, he has shared an update on how he’s coping with the virus…
Originating from the Chinese city of Wuhan, a deadly virus known as the coronavirus has been rapidly spreading across the globe.
Coronavirus infections have a wide range of symptoms, including fever, coughing, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. Severe cases can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and death.
A lot of people have now died from the virus…
It has been confirmed by Worldometer that 4,990 people have now died globally, with the majority being in mainland China.
A further 135,803 have been found to carry the virus and be infected.
The virus continues to rapidly spread, and traces of the disease have been discovered and confirmed in nearly every other major country in the world.
The World Health Organization declared an emergency last month and called on all countries to take urgent measures to contain the respiratory disease.
What is it that’s causing this deadly virus?
But it is widely believed that the sale of meat from wild animals is the prime cause of the coronavirus.
Strains of the virus have been discovered in bats in the past and, with them being a delicacy in some areas of China, they are believed to be one of the primary causes.
And the World Health Organization has warned that it can be spread by simply coughing, kissing or making contact with saliva.
But despite generous donations made to the cause, they have so far had no luck.
People all around the world are panicking.
It’s a dire situation.
People have been spotted donning face masks and various other items of clothing and materials in airports in a desperate bid to avoid the virus.
And there is an immense amount of pressure on authorities to find a cure, and fast.
And it’s showing no signs of slowing down.
And the United States is now one of them.
So far, 1,762 people have been confirmed to have been infected with the virus, and forty-one have reportedly died.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said a few weeks ago that it expects the coronavirus to spread in the United States and has asked Americans to prepare for when the virus hits, not if, CNN reported.
And hospitals across the country are bracing themselves for an influx of infected patients.
Despite not having any confirmed cases of the virus.
And will allow nurses and doctors to prepare for a possible influx of patients.
So things are getting pretty serious.
And many are experiencing anxiety and worry over the impending doom the virus brings with it.
And it seems that there is a reason for people to really start panicking.
The BBC reported yesterday on the 11th of March that the coronavirus has been officially confirmed by the WHO as a pandemic.
And this most certainly doesn’t exclude the rich and famous.
The sixty-three-year-old took to Instagram to reveal the news yesterday evening after the pair have been spending time in Australia for production of Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis Presley movie, in which Hanks is playing Presley’s iconic manager Colonel Tom Parker.
“Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive,” he wrote.
“Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety require. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no? We’ll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves!”
“We have been made aware that a company member from our Elvis feature film, which is currently in pre-production in The Gold Coast, Australia, has tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus),” the statement read.
“We are working closely with the appropriate Australian health agencies to identify and contact anyone who may have come in direct contact with the individual. The health and safety of our company members are always our top priority, and we are taking precautions to protect everyone who works on our productions around the world. The individual who tested positive for COVID-19 is currently receiving treatment.”
And many are starting to seriously panic… We simply cannot lose Tom Hanks!
Nothing can bring down Mr. Hanks… Hopefully.
As a photo of him, smiling and holding a make-shift Wilson in the Gold Coast hospital he is quarantined in, has recently emerged on Twitter.
It’s great to see that his sense of humor is intact.
Tom has now given an update on his and Rita’s health and, thankfully, it’s good news.
“Hello folks. @ritawilson and I want to thank everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us. We have Covid-19 and are in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else.”
Tom used his update to remind people that the virus could be deadly for some, and that following the advice of experts is essential.
“There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness. We are taking it one-day-at-a-time. There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no? Remember, despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball.”
Let’s hope the couple make a speedy recovery.
