Last night was amazing for a whole bunch of reasons, but it seems as though Tom Hanks stole the show for one very specific reason.

Yesterday was the all-important inauguration day.

Since it was announced that Joe Biden would be the forty-sixth President of the United States and Kamala Harris Vice President, many people have been counting down the days until the power exchange.

And already, Biden has begun laying out plans for his presidency.

From his plans to re-vamp "controversial" laws left by his predecessor to uniting a divided country.

But one of the most exciting things about the day was the inauguration TV special.

Celebrating America, which was hosted by Tom Hanks, has been hailed as an event that will go down in history.

And not only because it was brimming with some of our favorite celebrities...

We were also pretty excited about that though...

But because the event will hopefully bring Americans together in order to celebrate the best aspects of the country.

So let's take a look at what the night gave us.

Of course, we have to start with all the celebrity performances.

From actors and actresses to musicians and even TikTok stars, the star-studded event promised to be a night to remember.

Up first, we have Lady Gaga.

The outspoken pop singer kicked off the entire day with her rendition of the National Anthem.

Then we had a series of other iconic female performers including Jennifer Lopez, Demi Lovato, and Andra Day...

The latter gave an uplifting performance of her song "Rise Up" which really emphasized a new day for America. The singer was joined at the parade alongside figure skater Kaitlyn "the Skate Kid" Saunders.

And we were not short of iconic male performers either.

John Legend took to the stage along with Joe Jonas, Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen, and Justin Timberlake who wowed millions across the globe with their passion.

And if that wasn't exciting enough, prepare yourselves for this one...

On-screen POTUS Tony Goldwyn and the legend that is Kerry Washington hosted at the event. The Scandal stars each had their own segments; Goldwyn overwatched the "Parade Across America" as the University of Delaware and Howard University drumlines escorted Biden and Harris from 15th Street to the White House.

Kerry Washington, on the other hand, was joined by Housewife, Eva Longoria, to introduce segments throughout the night...

Including one in which they honored young members that go above and beyond for their communities.

Other acts included Black Pumas, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Lin Manuel Miranda.

And we can't forget about that iconic performance delivered by Amanda Gorman, can we? The poet controlled the stage early on during the inauguration with a piece dedicated to re-building a healing country.

When asked about the performance previously, she told The Times this:

"America is messy. It's still in its early development of all that we can become. And I have to recognize that in the poem. I can't ignore that or erase it. And so I crafted an inaugural poem that recognizes these scars and these wounds. Hopefully, it will move us toward healing them."

But even though these amazing moments captured the hearts of the nation, there was another that stood out...

But it's definitely not as touching as any of the previous ones.

As I mentioned before, Tom Hanks was the host of the night...

Getty

And yes, he did a good job of the challenging role, great in fact, but his skills were overshadowed by something else entirely.

Audiences were left extremely worried after seeing photos of him stood outside...

Many couldn't help but notice how thin his suit was for the close-to-zero temperatures that were apparent that night.

But no one thought to get him an overcoat or maybe a pair of Bernie-style mittens?

The man's sixty-four-years-old for crying out loud!

And not to mention, a COVID survivor. He deserves a scarf, at the very least.

Have a look at the awkward photos that caused all the worry:

That last one is the definition of smiling through the pain...

Either way, the night was a huge success and we're looking forward to seeing what this new chapter holds for the country. Keep scrolling for more related news...
