Many of us have had to work behind a bar or earn money waiting on tables at some point, whether it be as a part-time weekend job or a job to fund school studies.

It takes a certain personality to be able to work in this kind of environment...

Because hospitality requires a lot of hard work and resilience and, often, the work can be very rewarding.

But for many people...

Working in hospitality is a full-time profession, and it is the only way to earn money.

But it is a well-known fact that here in America...

Waiters and waitresses aren't paid well, at all.

It's truly shocking...

And it is an utter disgrace at how little they are paid per hour, with many being paid as little as $2.

Many people share this anger...

Which is what has spurred on the most recent online challenge: the #2020TipChallenge.

The trend reportedly kicked off earlier this year...

When a customer left a server at Thunder Bay Restaurant in Alpena, Michigan, a $2,020 tip for their $23 meal, as well as writing "Happy New Year" and "2020 Tip Challenge" across the bill.

And then, Donnie Whalberg, who stars in Blue Bloods, decided to take part back in January.

His wife shared his generous gesture on Twitter, showing the restaurant bill with a tip of $2,020.

But Whalberg wasn't finished there...

He visited the Marshland restaurant in Massachusetts last month and yet again left a tip of $2,020. Posting a photo of his receipt, the restaurant's Instagram page wrote, "A very special thank you to our friend @donniewahlberg! When asked about it all he said was 'who's up next?!'"

When Whalberg's kind-hearted gestures went viral online...

More and more people started taking on the challenge for their local servers and hospitality workers, including celebrities such as Harry Styles and Adele.

And the most recent celeb to take part in the generous challenge?

Tom Selleck, of course!

Selleck, who is best known for also starring in Blue Bloods, recently made a woman's day in a New York restaurant.

Upon taking to Twitter to share his "TV dads" act of kindness, people immediately began to send in messages of praise and their own experiences with generous tipping.

Writing on Twitter, Whalberg said:

"I found out that my TV Dad #TomSelleck has generously accepted the #2020TipChallenge at Elios Upper East Side! Love ya dad. I didn’t start it but I’m proud to be part of it. To those who gave even the smallest extra amount this year — THANK YOU." Selleck had tipped $2,020 and had written a note saying, "For Elios, I am honoring my friend Donnie Wahlberg's "tip challenge" with my sincere hope for a better 2020. Thank you all."

This is definitely the kind of stuff we need to be seeing as this terrible year draws to a close!
