What exactly is "gender dysphoria?"

Gender dysphoria involves a conflict between a person's sex and the gender with which he or she identifies with. People with gender dysphoria experience high levels of discomfort with their own bodies, and they often report feeling as if it isn't their own.

It is more commonly known as being "transgender."

People who are transgender more than often realize that they are from a very young age - children are able to experience gender dysphoria and this is when the majority of trans people realize this conflict.

It is a heartbreaking reality that many trans children face rejection from their families.

According to the Human Rights Campaign, studies have shown that familial rejection can lead to the LGBTQ+ youth engaging in behaviors and activities that endanger their health, trigger depression, and other mental health issues, and, in some extreme cases, can lead to homelessness and suicide.

Family support is one of the most important things for a child or person coming out as trans...

Child welfare expert, Caitlin Ryan, stated that "family acceptance predicts greater self-esteem, social support, and general health status," for LGBTQ+ youth. "It also protects against depression, substance abuse, and suicidal ideation and behaviors - issues for which transgender youth are at disproportionate risk."

Coming out as transgender and beginning the transition is never easy...

Despite this being what a person desires, the first few steps into transition are never easy, especially for a child. Enduring taunting in the school corridors from their peers who are too naive to understand the situation is a sad reality for many trans children.

Thankfully, the LGBTQ+ community is bigger than ever today.

There are countless organizations around the world that work hard together purely to support people, especially children, of the transgender community.

But despite this amazing support...

The transitioning process is never an easy one.

It is both physically and emotionally straining...

And it puts the human body through a lot of changes and stress.

But as any trans person who has undergone a transition can agree...

The results are totally worth it to become their true selves.

One couple who can agree with this is Danna Sultana and Esteban Landrau.

The pair are from Colombia, and they are both transgender.

Danna works as a model...

She is a transgender woman and she boasts an impressive Instagram following of over 218,000.

Her husband is also a transgender man...

And the pair have supported one another throughout their transitions over the years.

They make for the cutest couple...

And they have recently had some very exciting news to share.

They're expecting!

They announced the happy news of their pregnancy back in February with a picture of the pair smiling and Danna holding what’s thought to be a pregnancy test. She captioned the sweet photo, "Dreams do come true."

Both Danna and Esteban still have their natural organs, meaning that their baby has been conceived naturally...

Which also means that the dad will be the one carrying and giving birth to their child.

Esteban is now 8-months along with his pregnancy...

And the couple is overjoyed to see their baby boy thriving and growing safely.

However, they had a small scare recently.

Esteban believed thought that he was having contractions and was possibly going into premature labor, so the pair rushed to a local hospital.

Early contractions are normal, thankfully.

The couple returned home relieved and they are now patiently waiting for their big arrival.

Amazingly, the couple has received so much support and love online.

One person wrote on their page, "They are very beautiful and are giving a lot of courage to thousands of trans couples," while someone else wished Esteban well during labor, commenting, "What is left in that family is love! The best energy so that everything goes well in childbirth."

"Love is love."

"Love does not matter in what way it is given, it’s just that among so many options in this world you enjoy being with that loved one, that you choose from the heart to make a life together with that person," another well-wisher wrote.

We wish Danna and Esteban the best of luck with the birth of their first child!
