Pentagon officials have announced groundbreaking new guidelines for transgender people serving in the U.S military.
Here's the full story...
In January, shortly following his inauguration ceremony, President Biden swiftly signed 2 executive orders that reversed Trump's infamous ban on transgender people serving in the military...

And directed the Pentagon to determine new, detailed guidelines.
Now, as you will all know, the Trump administration announced its now-infamous ban 3 years after the Obama administration told transgender individuals they could serve and have access to gender-affirming medical care.
Trump attempted to justify his ban by saying that transgender people would leave the military "burdened with medical costs and disruption."
Addressing the issue, the then-president told reporters:
"I have great respect for the community. I think I have great support — or I've had great support from that community. I got a lot of votes."
He insisted that he was "doing the military a great favor."
"But the transgender — the military is working on it now. They're doing the work. It's been a very difficult situation. And I think I'm doing a lot of people a favor by coming out and just saying it. As you know, it's been a very complicated issue for the military. It's been a very confusing issue for the military. And I think I'm doing the military a great favor."
Trump's ban on transgender individuals was arguably one of his most criticized moves while in office...
So, of course, many were delighted when the Biden administration quickly got to work overturning it.
As stated earlier, President Biden wasted no time scrapping Trump's infamous ban...
"Transgender service members will no longer be subject to the possibility of discharge or separation on the basis of gender identity," the White House announced in the days following Biden's inauguration ceremony.
The statement added:
"President Biden believes that gender identity should not be a bar to military service and that America's strength is found in its diversity."
And now, after months of work behind the scenes...
The Biden Administration has today announced the official guidelines for transgender individuals wanting to serve in the military.
People are delighted with the new regulations...
This Is good news to me. Putting your life on the line to serve your country should be an honor for anyone who will fill the shoes and can do the work. 👏— GaijinGains (@GaijinGains) March 31, 2021

Thank you, President Biden
Exactly the right thing to do. We should honor and support all who are willing to defend this country with their life. Especially when military officers attest over and over that the trans personnel under their command are shining examples of what the military represents.— Gary Sawyer (@GarySaw45308553) April 1, 2021

Good to see Trumps rescindings orders rescinded. Wipe every vestige of Trumps presidency from the last four 4 years (minus the few bipartisanship processes) and just look forward to progress.— Zachary Tayler (@ZacharyTayler3) April 1, 2021
John Kirby, the Pentagon press secretary, said Defense Secretary, Lloyd Austin, wanted the military to recruit the best possible service member...
Regardless of their gender identity. He also explained that he wants the military to best reflect the diversity of the country it defends.
At a briefing on Wednesday, Kirby told reporters:
"We proudly recognize transgender and gender-nonconforming people and their continuing struggle for a life of equality and dignity."
And as for the finer details surrounding the new guidelines, which go into effect in thirty days' time...
He revealed that they will prohibit discrimination based on gender identity, allow people to enlist under the gender with which they identify, protect the privacy of trans troops, and provide a path for trans service members to seek medical treatment for their transition.
Incredible news, if I don't say so myself.
