Rather than conceding his defeat, Trump has begun legal proceedings. But his campaign has now suffered a huge blow...
It's been one hell of a week for Donald Trump.
via: GettyAs you will all be aware by now, the president suffered a colossal loss to his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden, for this year's presidential elections.
Of course, Trump has been doing everything in his power to challenge the result...But things aren't going well if this news is anything to go by.
He's launched lawsuits in many of the keep-swing states...But his campaign in Pennsylvania suffered a huge blow today.
Now, Trump has clearly been feeling the heat...
via: GettyAnd, as the counts went underway last week, he tried to temporarily stop vote-counting in Michigan and Pennsylvania - States where Joe Biden was projected to win.
He also called for a recount in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania...
via: GettyAnd then went on to threaten legal action against any State wherein Biden had won.
But, regardless of his many threats, the results were in after 4 long days of ballot counting.
via: GettyThe Associated Press called the race for Biden when Pennsylvania's twenty electoral votes put him over the 270-vote threshold needed to win the Electoral College.
Democrats all over the country have been rejoicing at the news of Biden's historic win...
And remarkable footage of people cheering and celebrating from the streets of New York was quick to circulate.
We just learned that Joe Biden has been elected 46th President of the United States, New York can’t stop cheering.… https://t.co/8mPwgcn0tx— Quentin A. Alexandre (@Quentin A. Alexandre)1604767345.0
However, there's someone who certainly hasn't been in the mood for celebrating...
via: GettyAnd that's President Trump, of course.
Trump's reaction to Biden's win has been nothing short of outrageous.
via: GettyThough the president is a historically sore loser - he's very rarely had to admit defeat ever in his life - and has long made wild accusations against the Biden campaign team, people simply cannot believe his refusal to accept what has happened.
His first response to Biden's win was to release a lengthy and damning statement...In which he accused Biden and his team of rigging the entire election. As per Sky News, the statement read: “We all know why Joe Biden is rushing to falsely pose as the winner, and why his media allies are trying so hard to help him: they don’t want the truth to be exposed. “The simple fact is this election is far from over. Joe Biden has not been certified as the winner of any states, let alone any of the highly contested states headed for mandatory recounts, or states where our campaign has valid and legitimate legal challenges that could determine the ultimate victor. “In Pennsylvania, for example, our legal observers were not permitted meaningful access to watch the counting process. Legal votes decide who is president, not the news media."
The statement then went on to explain how legal proceedings will begin immediately. It continued: “Beginning Monday, our campaign will start prosecuting our case in court to ensure election laws are fully upheld and the rightful winner is seated. “The American People are entitled to an honest election: that means counting all legal ballots, and not counting any illegal ballots. This is the only way to ensure the public has full confidence in our election. “It remains shocking that the Biden campaign refuses to agree with this basic principle and wants ballots counted even if they are fraudulent, manufactured, or cast by ineligible or deceased voters. Only a party engaged in wrongdoing would unlawfully keep observers out of the count room - and then fight in court to block their access. “So what is Biden hiding? I will not rest until the American People have the honest vote count they deserve and that Democracy demands."
And the frenzied Twitter rants were quick to follow. In his rage, Trump took to the social media platform to dispute the result further, insisting that he was the one to have won.
He tried to take some small victory from the situation...And proudly Tweeted that he received a record-breaking number of votes. Whatever helps you sleep at night, Don.
However, more damning accusations were quick to follow...Trump seems set on the idea that Biden and his team rigged the entire election to play out in their favor, and made strong hints that something happened in the counting rooms that had "never happened before."
And it didn't take him long to slam the Biden campaign as "thieves.""The big city machines are corrupt. This was a stolen election. Best pollster in Britain wrote this morning that this clearly was a stolen election, that it’s impossible to imagine that Biden outran Obama in some of these states."
Trump's personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, also held a press conference following the result...Where he, too, repeated the allegations that the election was tainted by widespread voter fraud.
However, the Trump campaign has so far not produced any sufficient evidence to justify their claims...
Which has prompted people to accuse them of fraud.
@LaraLeaTrump Only fraud in this election is coming from the trump administration. #trumpLostGoAway— Randi (@Randi)1604926391.0
And now, Trump has suffered yet another blow.
via: GettyTrump's lawyers have withdrawn one key allegation from their Pennsylvania campaign.
They've dropped the allegation that more than 600,000 mail-in and absentee ballots in Pennsylvania should be discounted.
via: GettySecretary of State Kathy Boockvar claimed there is "no plausible claim for relief on any legal theory."
It'll be fascinating to see what this means for the campaign.
