Two Nuns Went to Africa and Came Back Pregnant, Catholic Church is Investigating

If there’s one thing that everybody knows about nuns, it’s that they vow their lives to God and commit to a life of celibacy in his name.

So the one thing that anybody would not expect from a nun is for them to return pregnant from working in a foreign country.

This was the unexpected case for 2 nuns from Sicily, Italy, who were working away in Africa a few weeks ago.

Keep scrolling to learn more about this bizarre story and what will happen to the 2 nuns in question…

There are approximately 1.3 billion baptized Catholics worldwide, meaning it is a rather popular religion to follow.

Who is also known as The Pope.

The chief teachings of the Catholic church are God’s objective existence, God’s interest in individual human beings (who can enter into relations with God through prayer); the Trinity, and the divinity of Jesus – the immortality of the soul of each human being, each one being accountable at death for his or her actions in life with the award of heaven or hell.

But monks and nuns inhabit the lowest rung of the hierarchy in the Church.

They live in community with other members of their order, and they share all meals and try to work together, pray together, and recreate together. Because they take a vow of poverty, they don’t own their own car, and they have no personal savings or checking accounts.

The religious order they belong to provides all this, and they must ask their superiors when they need or want something; this is where that vow of obedience kicks in.

Celibacy is the abstinence from all or any sexual relations throughout a person’s life.

Celibacy is a huge deal in the Catholic Church.

For those who take a religious vow of celibacy, such as Catholic nuns, the meaning of celibacy goes deeper than merely not having sex.

When a person professes a vow of celibacy, they make a conscious choice of how they want to be in the world, and how they want to comport themselves and how they want to relate to others. It means that they choose to, not only abstain from sex, but also to not engage in sexual activity or romantic relationships.

It is very rare for a nun to break this vow of celibacy, so when they do, the precautions can be severe.

The 2 women, who belong to separate religious orders in the Italian city, both embarked upon a trip to Africa to carry out work for the church.

And they both discovered that they were pregnant.

One of them, a mother superior, found she was several weeks pregnant while the other woman discovered the news when she complained of stomach pain.

Both women are now facing an uncertain future in their profession and the scandal has caused “consternation” amongst the clergy.

The woman who suffered from stomach pains is thirty-four-years-old, and according to Italian news agency ANSA, she is reported to have belonged to a convent in Sicily’s Nebrodi Mountains.

It is also reported that she has now moved to Palermo to prepare for the birth of her child.

She spent her time caring for the elderly at an institute in Ragusa. She has already returned to her home country of Madagascar, according to reports, but the double scandal has caused concern among the church hierarchy.

“There is consternation at this news,” a church source in Rome, where the Catholic Church has its headquarters, told The Sun. “It appears that both women were back in their home nations and obviously had some form of a sexual encounter.”

“An investigation has been launched. They both breached strict rules of chastity but the welfare of their children is uppermost,” the source went on to say.

Pope Francis admitted to this abuse in January, and he said it was a “serious and grave problem.” “We have to fight this, and also the service of religious sisters: Please: Service yes, servitude no.”
