And here's what we can expect...

The airline announced its recent purchase of fifteen supersonic jets dubbed "Overture" from Boom Supersonic.

They can reach a top speed of 1,300 MPH, or Mach 1.7 speeds...

For reference, Mach 1 is the speed of sound!

To put that into perspective...

United says it "can connect more than 500 destinations in nearly half the time."

In addition to speeding up travel times...

We can also expect Overture to go from San Francisco to Tokyo in 6 hours.

And people have a lot to say...

But, don't hold your breath...

United says they won't be flying until 2026, and potential passengers can be expected to wait until 2029.

As for being environmentally friendly...

United says Overture will be net-zero carbon free from day one.

And is reportedly run on pure sustainable aviation fuel.

Amazing!

Of course, we can't forget about the original superfast jet...

Concorde, which arrived in 1976...

The Concorde's maximum speed was twice the speed of sound at 1,354 MPH...

But was taken out of service as a passenger jet in 2003.
