It's been a long time coming but The Haunting of Bly Manor finally dropped on Friday, serving us that spooky pre-weekend binge-watching.
And it seems it hasn't disappointed in terms of sheer terror...
On Friday, the time finally came...The Haunting of Bly Manor officially dropped on Netflix.
This season was touted to be even scarier than first. So of course, horror fanatics couldn't wait to get their teeth into the episodes.
But, after watching, viewers couldn't look past one thing...And it's left everyone feeling extremely haunted.
It all started with The Haunting of Hill House. The spine-chilling series immediately gained a ton of attention, and it's not hard to see why.
The series is loosely based on the 1959 novel of the same name. The Shirley Jackson story gained attention thanks to its incredibly atmospheric gothic themes - plus the fact that it was written by a woman in the fifties.
In need of a refresh? The Crains (which consists of 2 parents, 3 daughters, and 2 sons) move into the older house in the hopes of building their forever home there. But things don't go according to plan.
The house is filled with malevolent forces. In fact, after the series was released, many eagle-eyed internet fans had a field day going through the show shot by shot in order to identify all of the terrifying ghosts.
But it wasn't just a traditional ghost story. The reason The Haunting of Hill House was so good was the fact that it didn't just explore supernatural horrors, but also the very real horrors of being a human being.
It dealt with some pretty heavy topics. These included mental illness, childhood trauma, addiction, grief, and much, much more. When you combine these elements with actual ghosts, you've got a formula for horror gold.
But it was also mega scary. The way that the show dealt with tragedy and trauma, while still retaining excellent jump scares and haunting special effects made it an instant classic.
After the show ended, fans were left wanting more. While there's a ton of excellent horror on Netflix, The Haunting of Hill House was something a little different, and viewers were very sad to see it go.
But there was a problem...The ending scenes of The Haunting of Hill House were pretty perfect. On top of that, the fact that the source text ended after just one book meant that it seemed unlikely that there would be a follow-up series.
The series gained a ton of acclaim, though.

The second stint, aka The Haunting of Bly Manor, based on a classic from the horror canon.
via: WikipediaItThe Turn of the Screw is an 1898 novella which many credit with being a pioneer in the haunted house genre.
It was created by one of the biggest names in horror fiction.
via: Getty ImagesHenry James, born in 1843, is one of the most important literary figures from the turn of the 20th century. His most famous work is 1881's The Portrait of a Lady.
But he's also known for his groundbreaking work in the horror genre. And his 1898 novella, The Turn of the Screw, published across two editions of the newspaper, cemented his role as one of the godfathers of horror.
And James's story was made for the screen.Alongside numerous stage adaptations, The Turn of the Screw was also the inspiration text behind the 1961 horror movie classic, The Innocents.
Horror fans rejoiced with the news of season 2...Director of The Haunting of Hill House, Mike Flanagan, has said, "I already think it’s much scarier than season one, so I’m very excited about it."
But the season doesn't directly follow James's classic story. The expansive nature of a multiple-part series means that there was a ton of room for exploration. "We’re looking at all the ghost stories of Henry James as the jumping-off point for the season, so it very much is a whole new deal," Flanagan went on.
"It’s a cool way to expand on some of the things I loved about season one.""But within the framework of a new story, without having to be restrained by the decisions we made last time."
The varied nature of the source material means one thing.Rather than following a plot of one set story, Flanagan has much more freedom in terms of where his plot goes - and which themes he wants to explore.
But fans of the original series could count on one thing."That’s part of the DNA of ‘The Haunting’ for me - that old-school approach to the ghosts. In particular, we’re having an enormous amount of fun talking about how to take some of the ideas from season one about hidden ghosts and things like that, and find new gears for them this time. It’ll be the same type of story, and we’ll treat the ghosts very much the same way."
The second series has something for everyone..."For Henry James fans, it’s going to be pretty wild, and for people who aren’t familiar with his work, it’s going to be unbelievably scary."
And fans of Flanagan have a lot to look forward to.He's also working on another Netflix horror series called Midnight Mass, which deals with paranormal occurrences in the sphere of religion and spirituality.
Victoria Pedretti, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, and Henry Thomas star in this series once again. As well as Kate Siegel.
It didn't take long for people to offer their opinion on the show...
