As Christmas fast approaches, it seems as if every company out there is trying to get a piece of the action. Holiday shopping is well and truly underway - from limited-edition food and drink, to the much-anticipated Starbucks holiday collection - even hotel chains are getting in on the action!

But one brand has had a major Christmas shopping misfire this year. Walmart has released some holiday sweaters that many realized weren't the usual Christmas fare. Curious? Well, see for yourselves.

The holiday season is well and truly upon us.

And it's safe to say we're feeling pretty excited about the fact Christmas is just around the corner.

There's a lot to love about this time of year.

Let's face it, the holiday season offers the best in terms of food, drink, movies, songs, and home decor.

And there's one activity which truly sums the season up.

Why, shopping, of course! First things first, you've got to get all the gifts necessary for your loved ones.

But on top of gift buying?

Well, brands are keen to make the most of the whole season. And one way to do that is to bring out all manner of limited edition holiday products, for your purchasing pleasure.

Sometimes, these products are great!

But other times? Well...

And one company with a product landing firmly in the latter category?

Well, it has to be Walmart. In terms of Christmas clangers, this one is gonna be hard to beat.

As you'd expect, the Walmart holiday range is huge.

But there's one product which stands out for all the wrong reasons.

And the internet has absolutely noticed.

Offering some horrified (and hilarious) responses to the item.

It sounds innoucuous enough.

Walmart has launched a holiday sweater featuring Santa Claus front and center.

But this is a Santa Claus with a difference.

Rather than the usual wholesome figure he cuts, this Santa looks rather ... suspicious.

The range was featured on the Canadian Walmart page.

And let's just say it featured Santa as you'd never seen him before.

And they were more than a little tasteless.

But there was one sweater in particular which has caused something of an online storm.

Alongside that one, though, is a range of similarly grim Santa images.

From Santa being inspected by aliens, to him "roasting" his "chestnuts," to him quite simply sat on the toilet, there's ... something for everyone?

But there's one Santa who stands out above the rest.

This Santa is in full "party spirit" - and he's got the whole internet talking.

And here he is.

Oh boy. Where do we even begin?

Even worse than the image, though?

It has to be the description from the Walmart website.

"We all know how snow works. It's white, powdery and the best snow comes straight from South America."

"That's bad news for jolly old St. Nick, who lives far away in the North Pole. That's why Santa really likes to take savor the moment when he gets his hands on some quality grade A Colombian snow."

"He packs it in perfect lines on his coffee table and then takes a big whiff to smell the high-quality aroma of the snow."

"It's exactly what he needs to get inspired for Christmas Eve. The men's Let It Snow Ugly Christmas Sweater captures that moment when Santa is finally ready to enjoy that sweet, imported snow."

We know, we know, it's supposed to be "funny."

But, let's face it, it's not really. Just kind of ... awkward.

And Santa deserves better!

And it seems Walmart agrees - as they've pulled the items and issued an apology for their massive fail.

It seems the whole thing was done in error.

"These sweaters, sold by a third-party seller on Walmart.ca, do not represent Walmart's values and have no place on our website," said a spokesperson.

And now the sweaters have been pulled.

"We have removed these products from our marketplace. We apologize for any unintended offense this may have caused."

Although some found the sweaters quite reasonable.

Santa does, after all, have the hardest job in the world.

Although others had this reaction.

Although the sweaters are kind of a joke-fail, the fact they managed to appear on the Walmart website is pretty hysterical.

But in spite of that...

There's a lesson to be learned here - perhaps it's better to just keep Christmas sweaters traditional. Curious for more Christmas fails? Scroll on for the dad who shared his daughter's ingenious Christmas list. Some of the items really cracked us up.
