Why Walmart+ Is My Favorite Amex Benefit (And You’re Probably Overlooking It)

If you have an American Express Platinum Card or an Amex Business Gold Card, you already have access to a Walmart+ membership. Fully covered. Every month. And if you’re not using it, you’re leaving money on the table — real, actual dollars — month after month.

Let me explain why this has quietly become one of the best benefits on either card.

The Credit Is Completely Automatic

Amex Platinum cardholders get up to $12.95 back per month as a statement credit when they use their Platinum card to pay for a Walmart+ monthly membership. Amex Business Gold cardholders get the same: up to $155 back annually (about $12.95/month) toward a monthly Walmart+ membership.

That means Walmart+ is effectively free. You’re paying $12.95/month, and $12.95/month is coming right back to you. Net cost: zero. Benefits received: many.

And the Benefits Are Actually Really Good

Here’s where people underestimate this perk. Walmart+ isn’t some niche discount card. It’s a full-featured membership with real, everyday value:

Free same-day grocery delivery from your local Walmart on orders over $35. Free shipping on every Walmart.com order with no minimum. Up to 10 cents per gallon off fuel at Exxon, Mobil, Walmart, and Murphy stations. Early access to major sale events. A free Paramount+ or Peacock streaming subscription. Free prescription delivery. Mobile Scan & Go in-store.

The streaming subscription alone — Paramount+ or Peacock, your choice — retails for around $7–$13/month. So you’re getting a service that bundles another subscription inside it, and the whole thing is covered by your Amex credit.

Why This Benefit Gets Overlooked

The Amex Platinum has so many headline benefits — airport lounges, hotel status, Global Entry credits, airline fee credits — that the Walmart+ credit tends to get buried. Sure, it doesn’t have the glamour of a Centurion Lounge or a $200 airline credit. But here’s the thing: you can use Walmart+ every single week.

At best, I use a lounge once per month, but I get groceries delivered once a week or more (if I’m feeling lazy). And while a free pre-flight martini is certainly luxurious, true luxury is getting fresh produce delivered without having to step out of my house.

How to Set It Up (It’s Very Simple)

To use the benefit on an Amex Platinum: log into your American Express account, find the Walmart+ benefit under your card benefits, click through to activate, and sign up for a Walmart+ monthly membership using your Platinum card. The statement credit appears automatically each month.

For Amex Business Gold: the process is the same — find the Walmart+ credit in your card benefits, activate, and pay with your Business Gold card. Up to $155 annually in credits will apply.

One important note: the credit applies to the monthly membership, not the annual plan. Make sure you’re signed up for month-to-month, and pay with your enrolled Amex card.

The Math Is Embarrassingly Simple

Walmart+ monthly membership: $12.95. Amex statement credit: $12.95. Net cost to you: $0.00.

With a membership, you get free grocery delivery, free shipping, gas savings, a streaming subscription, and more. This is a benefit that automatically pays for itself while giving you tangible weekly value.

If you’ve been sleeping on this one, now’s the time to set it and forget it.
