If you're into a certain style of polished makeup, there's one celebrity who undoubtedly reigns supreme. Kylie Jenner was already an undisputed makeup Kween, but since the launch of her very own cosmetics line in 2015, she's gone from strength to strength. A natural, barely-there look is not the Kylie way - but boy is she skilled at what she does.
And now Vogue has captured her skills in action for everyone to see. All it takes is a swift thirty-plus steps, and you too can achieve the coveted Jenner face. We have to say, it's pretty impressive - even though we're not sure that we'll be recreating it anytime soon.
Ok - let's start.
via: YouTubeThe very first thing that Jenner does in her routine is moisturize her face. This is key to making sure that her makeup applies nicely and lasts well. Jenner doesn't reveal which moisturizer she uses, so let's just assume that it's horrifyingly expensive, shall we?
Next, she applies chapstick.
via: YouTubeThis helps to prep her lips for the inevitable slew of liner, lipstick, gloss, et cetera. Jenner is pretty much famous for her pout, so it makes sense that she'd want it to be looking its best.
The third step is brows.
via: YouTubeJenner fills in her (already enviable) eyebrows with a dark, thin pencil, creating hairlike strokes for a natural finish.
And that's not the end of the brow routine.
via: YouTubeAfter her eyebrows are filled in, Jenner uses a flat brush and concealer to define their edges even further.
Next up, Jenner primes her eyelids.
via: YouTubeShe manages to double up on products here, which is a handy way to save some time. Jenner uses the same brush and concealer to cover her lids. This helps to cancel out any discoloration and creates a grippy surface for shadows to cling to.
But surely you didn't think that that was the end of priming.
via: YouTubeJenner sets her eyelid concealer with some loose powder. This ensures that eyeshadow is easy to blend and creates a flawless finish.
Once her lids are primed, Jenner begins eyeshadow.
via: YouTubeShe first takes a neutral matte shade on a fluffy brush and begins to build some depth in her crease.
After this, she uses a shimmer shade to highlight.
via: YouTubeJenner takes a light, glittery gold shade (from a Kylie Cosmetics palette, naturally) on a pencil brush and uses it directly underneath her eyebrow to make the browbone pop.
Jenner then takes a deeper brown eyeshadow.
via: YouTubeShe uses this darker shade to better define her eye socket, creating what's known as a "cut crease."
Next, Jenner adds some fun color.
via: YouTubeShe takes a shimmery copper shade across her mobile lid. Jenner uses her finger for this to build up the intensity and to give a foiled effect.
Next, Jenner intensifies the orange tones.
via: YouTubeShe takes a brighter shimmery orange color one a small detailer brush and applies it to her inner tear duct.
With the majority of her shadow done, Jenner then begins to clean up her work.
via: YouTubeShe takes a makeup wipe and removes any eyeshadow fallout that may be on her cheeks or around her face. Jenner explains that this is why she tends to do her eyeshadow before applying her foundation.
Eyes (sort of done), it's time to move on to foundation.
via: YouTubeJenner creates a base concoction of her own making. She combines one pump of liquid highlighter with four (yes, you read that right - four) pumps of foundation to create a glowy yet high coverage base.
Jenner applies this across her face with a brush.
via: YouTubeOnce it's on her face, she uses a damp beauty sponge to ensure that it's properly blended into the skin, to give her a more natural, fresh-faced look.
But that's not the end of the foundation.
via: YouTubeJenner also takes a small amount of her pre-mixed base product on a smaller foundation brush and uses it to outline the upper perimeter of her brows.
Next up, Jenner conceals.
via: YouTubeShe mixes two shades - a pink one to conceal darkness, and a beige one to counteract any redness. Jenner also applies her concealer to highlight her face by drawing light to the high points of her face.
Jenner sets this concealer with a powder.
via: YouTubeShe uses a thick layer of loose white powder and a damp beauty sponge to ensure that the concealer sets and doesn't break up or settle into fine lines.
That's not the only powder Jenner uses, either.
via: YouTubeShe also takes a powder foundation with SPF and applies it all over the rest of her face. This helps with her makeup's longevity and helps to protect her skin from UV rays, which can cause sunburn and premature skin aging.
Jenner then applies bronzer.
via: YouTubeBronzer is a warmer, matte powder that can be used to deepen the look of makeup and add a hint of dimension to the face.
Jenner also contours her face.
via: YouTubeShe uses a cooler toned powder to mimic the look of shadow. Using a powder like this can help make face look slimmer and more angular. Jenner applies it right underneath the furthest back part of her cheekbones.
Underneath her contour, Jenner adds pale powder.
via: YouTubeShe applies a large quantity of this powder with a damp sponge, then allows it some time to soak into the skin. This brightens the tone of the makeup and makes the contour stand out even more.
Next is the step that Jenner is probably best known for.
via: YouTubeShe lines her lips - and takes the same liner shade over pretty much her whole lip. Amazingly, Jenner can line her lips with her eyes closed - which is some pretty incredible talent.
Next, Jenner applies lipstick.
via: YouTubeShe uses a similar dark nude tone to her liner and applies it all over her infamous lips.
Lips (almost) done, Jenner moves back to her eyes.
via: YouTubeShe takes some of the same matte tones that she used in her crease and adds some definition to her lower lash line.
Jenner then completes her eyeshadow.
via: YouTubeShe takes more loose powder to ensure that the edges of her eyeshadow blending is as seamless as possible and that her concealer is as bright as possible.
Next, Jenner takes her contour one step further.
via: YouTubeShe takes the same matte contour powder and uses it to add shadows around the bridge of her nose. This gives a smaller, more refined look to the nose.
Jenner then applies blush.
via: YouTubeShe takes a warm peachy shade from her own line of cosmetics to add color to the apples of her cheeks. And Jenner doesn't stop here - she also takes a small amount of blush across her forehead, chin, and the tip of her nose, too.
After the blush is complete, Jenner removes her excess powder.
via: YouTubeAfter leaving it to set for a while, Jenner finally uses a large fluffy brush to sweep off the last of the powder on her jawline.
Jenner then applies mascara.
via: YouTubeShe uses a black mascara on her upper lashes and then combs through with a spoolie to ensure that there aren't any unwanted clumps.
Jenner also applies mascara to her lower lashes.
via: YouTubeBut instead of going for the same black that she uses on her top lashes, Jenner uses a brown mascara on her bottom eyelashes to give a more subtle look.
Next is highlighter.
via: YouTubeJenner applies a shimmery golden powder from her own line. She prefers to apply this with a smaller brush to ensure a more targeted application.
Jenner then applies some lip gloss.
via: YouTubeShe uses a sheer shimmery shade from her own line to add some highlight to the center of her lips and make them look extra pouty.
Jenner then sets her eyebrows into place.
via: YouTubeShe uses a clear eyebrow gel to comb through her brows and to ensure that they don't move for the whole day.
Jenner then applies yet more blush.
via: YouTubeShe puts the stuff over her cheeks, forehead, nose, and chin, laughing that she's "drowing in blush."
We've (finally) reached the final stage.
via: YouTubeJenner finishes her makeup by liberally spraying on a ton of setting spray. Once this dries, it will ensure that her makeup never looks powdery or cakey - plus, it helps the finished look last far, far longer.
