Sister Act 3 was announced for Disney + back in 2018 before the streaming service even debuted, but now it’s 2022, and we still have no sign of the movie…
Whoopi Goldberg confirmed her involvement in the movie in the fall of 2020, but 2 years later, there’s still no new Sister Act to show for it…
But it seems progress is finally been made.
Read on to find out more…
Let’s be honest…
We’ve all sang the Sister Act songs in the shower at some point!
The original movie stars Whoopi Goldberg as a lounge singer who was forced to join a convent…
After being placed in a witness protection program.
She ended up transforming the Sunday choir into a soulful act.
It gained widespread attention.
The movie was a huge success across the globe.
And raked in a whopping $231.6 million at the box office.
In the early ’90s, the year the first movie was released…
It was one of the most financially successful comedies.
In 1992, a year after the first Sister Act was released…
Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit hit the big screen.
As well as the movies…
A musical adaptation also premiered in 2006.
With the success of the past 2 Sister Act movies…
It’s safe to say that another installment is long overdue.
But now, after so many years…
It seems as though we might be finally getting what we’ve all wished for.
It looks like the wheels have been put in motion…
As Sister Act 3 has been confirmed.
Speaking on The Late Late Show With James Corden…
Goldberg spilled the beans on the third movie.
She was determined to give updates on the third installment of the franchise.
“Because for a long time they kept saying no one wanted to see it and then quite recently it turns out that may not be true, people might want to see it,” the star explained.
Goldberg continued, “It’s a really fun movie, it feels good and nobody’s mad, it’s just, like, listen, bad singing, great singing, ok singing, and then nuns. What’s better than that?”
Sister Act 3 plans are well and truly being put in motion.
Goldberg added: “So we’re working diligently to figure out how to get the gang together and come back.”
And now, Goldberg has given another update on the movie…
And revealed that the project is still well and alive and could very well be moving forward soon.
During an interview with Collider, Goldberg said she is “waiting for the script at the end of the month.”
Meaning the end of October.
More recently on The View, Goldberg claimed that Disney, who produced the previous Sister Act movie, was “lukewarm for the longest time” about making another one.
She claimed that “Nobody wanted to see it.”
But despite the delay in production, the movie will continue to go forward as planned.
