But here’s one thing most of us don’t know about the actor…

His real name!

It has been brought to light that Will Ferrell isn’t actually the actor’s proper name.

Ferrell made the shocking revelation during a virtual appearance on The Late Late Show.

He began by asking the host of the show, James Corden, if anyone calls him Jimmy “back at home.”

Corden discussed the notion of his nickname for a while, and admitted that the name Jimmy “never really took off.”

Corden asked the actor if his parents had ever called him “William”, to which he responded: “My parents tried to call me Willy, but they said I was too distinguished.”

And Ferrell, who was also struggling not to laugh, stated simply: “So I just became a Will.”

He asked Ferrell about his formal full name, saying, “So on your passport, are you, William Ferrell?”, to which the actor responded, “no.”

“Okay, here it comes. Are you ready? Viral moment, right here,” he continued.

Ferrell admitted his real name is John William, explaining, “my dad, on occasion, will call me JW.”

But this week, Ferrell has gone viral for a more heartwarming reason.

Actress Octavia Spencer was being inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and Ferrell was there to present her star.

Spencer had already mentioned being overwhelmed by the moment.

When the honor was announced, she told Variety: “How do you respond to that? To know that you will forever be a part of the mythology of this town.”

But during the ceremony, one heckler tried to ruin Spencer’s moment.

Ferrell was commenting on his Spirited co-star’s star placement, joking his was “all the way down in East Los Angeles.”

The heckler then responded that the ceremony was all about “celebrating rich people.”

And people loved how Ferrell responded.

“Not on Octavia’s day! Keep it moving. Keep it moving,” he hit out.

“The wax museum’s down there. That thing is wide open.”

Ferrell then mocked the heckler, “He’s got powerful lungs. He’s using his diaphragm. Louder, please. They can’t hear you in Alhambra.”

“Is that guy up next? Is he supposed to speak? Sweatpants weirdo, is he up here?

“Should I just go tackle him?” Ferrell said.
