Whether that's being involved in a collision or running over an animal... the number of risks is endless.

But the risks of turtles?

Of course, turtles don't even come to mind when driving!

But one woman recently found that she came very close to danger thanks to a turtle.

Let's start from the beginning...

Latonya Lark was out in her car with her brother on the 12th of May.

They were running some daily errands in Georgia and, so far, their day was running smoothly.

But disaster struck...

Out of nowhere, something smashed into Latonya's windscreen as she was driving.

The initial impact shocked both Latonya and her brother...

They both heard a "loud boom" and by the time they knew it, they were covered in broken glass.

They initially thought they were involved in a collision.

"When the glass broke, the first thing that comes to my mind was just to shield myself," Grant, a licensed cosmetologist, said in an interview. "So it was just like, you know, turn and cover."

But little did they know what had actually caused the shattered windscreen.

This is where the turtle comes in...

A turtle came flying out of nowhere and hit Latonya's car...

Leaving itself wedged in between the shattered glass.

Trust us when we say we're all asking the same thing...

Where on earth did the turtle come from?!

Latonya has a pretty solid idea as to where the poor creature came from.

She believes it was sent flying toward their car from a vehicle in front of them that had hit the reptile on the road.

She took to Facebook to document the situation...

"My prior delimer… Mr. Turtle was found at fault but he did not have insurance. He got escorted to the Wildlife reserve, I got stuck with the bill. So beware Savannah of flying turtle on the Truman Parkway. My brother almost lost his head. Besides my sugar going off the roof. I am fine but disturbed."

After the incident, the pair pulled over and called for help.

According to the police report, the turtle damaged the car so badly, it was unable to be driven safely and had to be towed.

Things could have ended up being a lot worse...

"Even the police officer said if that glass wasn’t as thick as it was and I didn’t slow down the way I did when I saw the object coming, it would have been disastrous," Latonya explained.

The officers were able to remove the turtle gently from the glass...

The scared creature was taken away to Savannah Animal Care for medical treatment following the accident and unfortunately lost a leg.

But sadly...

Latonya called the animal care center earlier this week and she found out the turtle had sadly passed away from blood loss.

Latonya's friends have been left completely baffled and amused by the bizarre situation.

One friend commented, "Just when you think you’ve seen it all. Corona, murder hornets, now flying turtles! We’re doomed!"

The majority of people have just been left confused.

"I don’t understand how this could have happened it doesn’t make sense."

It seems that Latonya and her brother had a narrow escape!
