Technology and social media truly define the younger generation.

It's pretty unlikely that you'll see a teenager walking down the street without a smartphone in their hand, desperately scrolling through their many social media apps.

But it isn't just teenagers who are obsessed with social media...

The majority of us adults are too, with us posting every inch of our lives on these apps and communicating with others through them.

A lot of social media apps provide many purposes...

People can actually earn a living through social media, such as selling things on Instagram or starting a business through Twitter.

But there are some apps that aren't so productive...

And TikTok is one of them!

A lot of people struggled to understand exactly what TikTok is...

Basically, it is an iOS and Android app made for creating and sharing short lip-sync, comedy, and talent videos.

Of course, the majority of content on the app is filled with humorous and silly videos...

But if you search hard enough, you'll come across some pretty moving stuff.

Some people try and use the app to make a difference...

And if a video goes viral, it will more than likely have a huge impact. Take Dr. Emeka Okorocha, for example. The doctor has been using TikTok to not only raise awareness about healthcare workers but to also talk about the BLM movement.

A seventeen-year-old woman has also been using the app in this way...

And her most recent has gone viral worldwide.

Her name is Emma Raynea...

And she is a student from Arizona.

Like many young women her age, Emma spends a lot of time on TikTok...

And she recently decided to call out the men who have been using a trend that involves either leaving a comment or dueting a woman's TikTok (often when she's underage) and saying their behavior makes them "not want to have a daughter."

She started by saying:

"Something I see a lot on this app is boys saying they hope they don't have a daughter because of the possibility that they might wear a bikini or have a pair of boobs... so today I'm going to tell you why I'm scared to have a daughter."

Emma went on to explain the fear women live with every single day because of certain men...

"I'm scared to have a daughter because she might go out in fear of her life because of your son. I'm scared to have a daughter because, at a very young age, I'm gonna have to teach her how to defend herself from your son."

She made reference to the rape culture here in America...

"I'm scared to have a daughter because she might have to go through what I went through, as somebody's daughter, because of your son. I'm scared to have a daughter because one day she might feel like she's lost control of her own body because your son couldn't control his."

Young men's attitudes towards women is the problem.

"So, how about instead of hoping and praying that you don't have a daughter, you go ahead and realize why you don't want to have a daughter, and that's because you're scared of other boys looking at her the way that you look at girls today. And that's all."

When asked what inspired her to share her thoughts on TikTok, Emma told BuzzFeed:

"I believe that there are much more important issues involved in worrying about having a daughter than her being comfortable with her own body, like the things I listed in the video. You’ll find comments [from men] like that all over the app. Mainly on videos of women showing a bit of skin or talking about their sexuality openly."

She also explained how she feels women are treated differently on TikTok, as well as everyday life.

"I 100% think men and women are treated differently on the app. A woman cannot post a video of herself without men in the comments degrading, sexualizing, or insulting her. However, a man can post whatever he wants and be praised for it."

"Something I never see being talked about is how scary it actually is to live in this world as a woman."

She went on to say, "Speaking for myself and lots of other women, we live in constant fear of men. I can't name one woman in my life who hasn’t been sexually assaulted, abused, or harassed by men. From a young age, we’re taught how to protect ourselves from men, but why aren’t we teaching men from a young age how to control themselves and respect women?"

Emma's followers sent in floods of praise and admiration...

And so many young women spoke out about how they have felt scared because of men in their lives.

It seems that many women feel exactly the same way as Emma does...

And this goes to show the damaging effect that men's toxic behavior has on women, and it is not okay.

And we must say a huge AMEN to this amazing young woman for bravely speaking out about this important issue.
