Chris Watts has developed some weird relationships throughout his time behind bars after confessing to killing his wife and 2 daughters.
But now, in a new documentary preview, Christa Richello – a clinical psychologist – admits she has been in an intimate relationship with Watts and has inhabited her mom’s obsession for criminals.
“Christa admits that being intrigued by famous criminals is in her DNA,” the documentary preview discloses.
Debuting on June 25th, Cellmate Secrets: Chris Watts will feature new interviews with Christa. According to press materials for the project, she has “developed a close and intimate relationship” with Chris and cellmate Dylan Tallman after she met the murderer by sending him fan letters in prison.
In 2018, Chris Watts brutally murdered his pregnant wife Shanann and 2 young daughters, 4-year-old Bella and 3-year-old Celeste.
On November 6th, 2018, Chris pleaded guilty to multiple counts of first-degree murder as part of a plea deal when the death penalty was removed from sentencing. He was sentenced to 5 life sentences without the possibility of parole, 3 to be served consecutively.
Chris was having an affair at the time of the murders and it is strongly believed this is what spurred him to do what he did. Netflix’s documentary, American Murder: The Family Next Door launched Chris into the global spotlight.
“I found it very odd, the way the case was handled,” Christa tells the camera in the footage, “I’ve never seen a case in history that somebody took a plea agreement so quickly, the case was completely ended and not investigated.”
In a preview clip exclusive to E! News, Christa explained why she was drawn to the case and disclosed her close relationship with both Chris and his cellmate Dylan. The forty-two-year-old clinical psychologist is actually now engaged to Dylan after he responded to Christa’s letter on Chris’ behalf.
The pair met 3 times before COVID-19 restrictions set in, so now they contact each other via phone calls and video calls. Both Christa and Dylan have talked about their plans for the future and she’s in fact discussed having children with him eventually.
“My mother was always fascinated with Charles Manson from when she was younger. I do think my mom was drawn to my dad because he looked so much like him,” Christa explained to the camera. “Before she met my dad she was on her way to go to the Manson family to live on the ranch with Charles Manson and then she saw my dad…” she said.
Charles Manson was the leader of a cult on his ranch in the late 90’s. The cult became known as The Manson Family. He was arrested after his followers committed a series of 9 murders at a number of different locations in 1969.
After watching documentaries on Chris’s horrific crimes, people on Twitter were sickened over what he did to his family.
“I would never expect that a handsome guy like Chris Watts could be such an evil killer,” one person tweeted.
“You want to start fresh without your family then get a divorce! Why do you have to kill your family?” another person questioned.
But even though nearly the entire social media population thinks Chris is guilty, Christa is still drawn to him as she said “there are all these different theories because normally this would be going on in a trial for years, and it was only 2 months to this plea agreement. And that’s what caught me.”
Cellmate Secrets: Chris Watts premieres Friday, June 25 at 10 p.m. on Lifetime.
