This Woman Gets Paid $6,000 a Day to Write Instagram Inspirational Quotes | 22 Words

What is your dream job? Movie star? Ice cream tester? Someone who cuddles the puppies and kittens at animal shelters to help socialize them? (That one is mine.)

Whatever your dream job is, you're most likely hoping that it will make you enough money to live comfortably. I get it, we all secretly want a private hot tub and butler.

I'm sure you can agree that well-paying jobs also require having a lot of time. Lot's of schooling, long hours, and tons of work. You don't get to be a surgeon or a high-profile lawyer unless you're willing to put in the hours.

But what if I told you, that you could make thousands of dollars in one day just by writing a few words? You'd probably say it sounded like a scam, and honestly, you're right to judge. But for some people, this job is their reality.

You've most likely seen posts like these on Instagram:

A single post, containing an inspirational quote.

Or maybe something like this:

You've definitely seen them before. Your friends post them, your aunts post them, your mother in law posts them– you get the idea. They are everywhere.

But have you ever thought about where they come from?

Have you ever wondered who was the genius behind all that inspiration?

Sometimes it's obvious.

Thanks, Eleanor.

Sometimes they're a little too obvious.

Like this one. I'm pretty sure I've seen that quote on bumper stickers, birthday cards, and bullet journals.

But what about the quotes that can't be traced?

Like this one. Who do you think came up with that eloquent statement?

How about this one?

Someone had to come up with that, right? Instagram doesn't produce quotes from thin air.

As it turns out, writing Instagram quotes is big business.

Just ask Laura Belgray, a writer who gets paid $6000 a day to write quotes for Instagram posts.

Yes, you heard me correctly.

According to a recent article in Money, Laura charges $950 an hour to write copy– which includes the quotes you see on Instagram.

Her company writes different types of word copy.

Laura's company is called Talking Shrimp. She writes promos for TV shows, podcast intros, website copy, and corporate branding. And business is good.

Laura says that she enjoys writing quotes for Instagram the most out of her other duties.

According to Belgray, there are a lot of bad, generic quotes out there. So, she is hired to write better ones.

On her own Instagram, she posts her own original quotes.

These serve as advertisements for her services. And they work! People hire her to write similar quotes for their Instagram feeds.

Some are serious and inspirational.

Just like this one! I'm feeling inspired already.

But others are funny and light-hearted.

And completely original. I would've never thought to write that!

Scratch that– most of these quotes are plain funny.

This quote, in particular, is a lot more interesting than your typical Instagram quote.

Belgray specifically says she's tired of seeing the same old quotes on Instagram.

And that it's ironic how a lot of them are about being an individual.

So she writes her own.

And gets paid good money for it!

Ok, but here's the real question:

Can you really get paid big bucks to write quotes for Instagram? Is it as easy as throwing a few words into a template, then cashing a check?

Well, maybe.

You might not find someone willing to pay you $950 an hour for writing services on your first try. It took Belgray years to build her business, and years after that to be able to charge her high rates.

According to Belgray, there are things you can do to build your business and make money writing copy.

And you don't need an expensive education or a big-name internship to do it.

She specifically says the copy world isn't Mad Men anymore.

So rest assured, you don't need to be a wealthy white dude or drink all day in order to do it!

First of all, she doesn't just think of something, write it up, and slap it on Instagram.

All good writing requires editing. Even though she writes short things, Belgray still edits her quotes to make sure they are perfect.

She starts with an idea of what she wants to say.

And then tinkers with it until it is punchy, concise, and perfect. And of course, turns it into the kind of post people will want to share.

She encourages people who are interested in writing, to put their work out there.

Make quotes on Instagram, write on Medium. Get your stuff out there so people can see it!

And once you do, make sure you include a way for people to contact you if they want to hire you.

And when they do, be ready to tell them your rates.

If you are just starting out, you probably can't charge $950 an hour.

Belgray's rate is the result of a long career and high demand. You may have to start out a little cheaper.

Ok, probably a lot cheaper.

You may have to start small, but that doesn't mean you can't raise your rates over time.

So the question is...

Do you think you can write something better than this?

Or this?

Maybe it's time you tried your hand at writing inspirational quotes!

Maybe one day you too can make enough money to put a down payment on a house in one week.

Seriously, $6000 a day is insane.
